Heather was creepy

Did anyone else find her incredibly CREEPY? She kissed Schiller's hands before they were well acquainted. She rubbed honey on his face (?????!!??).

This could have easily taken a turn into psychological thriller territory with minimal tweaking.

Ok, so I'm being hyperbolic, but she WAS presumptuous and a bit untoward, no? I honestly didn't GET her character.

I've got an appetite for destruction but I scrape the plate.

I think it may have more to do with the actress. She was the only part of Six Feet Under I could not stand. She really made it hard to enjoy that series at times.

I agree that it was odd, and thought similarly that it could have turned into a thriller without much prompting.
I also agree it may have been in part to the actress. She seemed too wide-eyed, almost Glenn Close-Fatal Attraction.

I didn't understand 80% of what the director/writer was trying to *say* with this film either until I listened to the Director's Commentary!
That says something odd about me or about the director, or both lol!

Extremely creepy, and I doubt a writer of his age — considering his history with women — would be receptive to such tactics.

I mostly enjoyed the interplay between the two characters, but sometimes her moves just bordered on bizarre, and at other times they crossed that border.

I just finished watching the film, and I have to say her character disturbed me very much. Very pushy and overeager...just really creepy as stated before!

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who thought that. Talk about coming onto someone so strong. :X

Hi, Simplythebest79424! Yes, it was a very odd touch for a film that was otherwise very poignant. I wonder if it occurred to the director that this woman would be perceived as a bit "off"?

Just watching the movie and reading your post. I agree that Heather seemed to cross the line sometimes. I read in another post by we2 the characters were only interested in themselves. I further say that they are only interested in their goals. If that is true, they are stacking the deck for success. And that doesn't necessarily lead to happiness.

she loved poetry and romance, but she hit the glass ceiling at birth

Good point about the characters being interested only in themselves. I certainly see that in Heather, whom I suspect would have had no interest in Leonard had he not been a steppingstone to her career. As for Leonard, he seemed to revel in the attention – any attention – at his age.

That is a real "What were they thinking" scene on the part of the filmmakers, and while I find it a distraction from an otherwise excellent film, I respect their decision to provoke, or perhaps to shock, the audience.

I saw nothing about his attitude that even hinted at reveling - he was reluctant and distant at first, refused to reveal any of his personal life to her, and came across as mostly just being polite to her pushiness.

The only immediately apparent reason he indulged her presence early on was because she would act offended if/when he didn't and he didn't want to insult or discourage her.

If he was reveling in her attention, he wouldn't have slapped her face for her silly patronizing ("I think it will be your best...") near the end.

Totally creepy, especially the honey rubbing. But I laughed my ass off at that scene. It was cringe-worthy but very funny.

Good movie, though.

No, I agree, I thought she was creepy too. The way she wouldn't take a gentle "go away" from Leonard. I wound myself yelling at her when she was on-screen, especially in the scene where she forced her way onto the elevator, saying "that's not good enough," after he told her to go home.
