''Don't Write Me Off' question

I have a question about one of the lines that evidently is supposed to mean something from the reaction by Sophie's sister Rhonda in the audience. It's "and I haven't felt like this since before Frankie said relax". Who is Frankie? What's this all about? I'm wondering if it has something to do with a scene and a character that were deleted.

reply

No, it's a reference to the group Frankie goes to Hollywood. They had a hit during the 80s called Relax

reply

Thanks. That has to be it. I was just thrown off by Rhonda's reaction in the audience. But she's an 80's gal, so she would react.

You're right, the song "Relax" is not obscure--I just listened to it on youtube. It was so pervasive in the 80s that I tuned it out. I thought it rather dreck-y.

reply

If you are from the 80s you know the song Relax. It has huge for a couple of yrs. People were wearing those stupid Relax shirts. Yuck. I hated the song.

reply

you have never heard relax?!?!

"relax don't do it, when you wanna get to it, relax don't do it when you wanna come"

wow. you are not an 80's music expert then. that is a quiintessential 80's song.

reply

Yes, I have heard it. As I tried to explain above, I used to hear it so often that I tuned it out and blocked it out of my memory. That's why I did not recognize the title and artist at first. Then I listened to it online and it all came back to me . . . It is not one of my favorites.

reply

Also "Frankie says Relax" t shirts were hugely popular as well

lol relax was a huge part of the movie zoolander.

reply

And it was featured in the movie "The Wedding Singer". I swear "Relax" is played more now than it was in 83-84 on MTV.

House: Hey I can be a jerk to people I haven't slept with. I am that good.

reply

Also in "The Proposal" with Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds!

reply

Also, the song/group is referenced in the opening as one of the groups appearing in the 80's hasbeen series. The network weenie jokes "so relax" and Alex (I think) says "good one"

When they found Carbone in the meat truck, it took them two days to thaw him out for the autopsy.

reply

Rhonda and Sophie both are reacting to the fact that Alex, who supposedly could not write lyrics at all, came up with real good lines for the song.
