What makes you say that? Based on what you saw of her on the tabloid tv shows?
No matter what the general public thought of her, I'm sure she loved her kids. And to say that her motherless daughter is better off, just goes to show what kind of an *beep* you are. What gives you the right to judge.

My mother died what she was also 39 yrs old back in '78. The state broke up my brother and sisters. Didn't see them for over 15yrs. Until we hunted each other down. Now we were lucky, all of us turned out alright. Except my oldest sister. She has "problems".

Ah, my poor cantankerous little goiter. Your (lack of) logic makes you a fine penpal indeed. You obviously feel that in order to distinguish yourself, you must do something noble. Your word choices of "golddigger" and "utterly useless" loudly illustrate your conviction in this. I'm not sure if you truly are this ignorant about this matter or if you are merely playing the part so I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt.

The word distinguish doesn't necessarily make a reference to causes good (me) or bad (you and your mama). One could merely, among other things, gain fame in order to be distinguished. Anna Nicole and Paris Hilton are both famous and therefore distinguished. President Lincoln and Jack the Ripper? You guessed it. Both distinguished. Because they are well known, they are distinguished by definition. They have set themselves apart from the crowd, whether in a positive way (Abe Lincoln) or negative (Jack the Ripper). Please stop immersing yourself in a very limited idea of the word as utilized by Eddie Murphy in The Distinguished Gentleman. And please stop being such a goiter.

Well, I could go on a long ramble about how you must really be an idiot to jump to such fallacious conclusions as you are so deft at doing. And so I will. Because you truly and unremorsefully are such an idiot. Of course the word "fame" isn't in the definition. Fame does, however, distinguish you from the rest of the world.

I’ll break down the word using the 4 definitions given above: 1) Celebrities are "different" – Do people ever flock to you for your autograph? 2) Commoners "recognize the salient or individual features or characteristics of" celebrities - In other words (I'll dumb it down for you), they are well recognized. 3) We "perceive" celebrities "clearly by sight" - Millions of people know what Paris Hilton looks like - "or other sense" - Your stinky ass I'm sure can be smelled from blocks away. 4) "Celebrities are set apart as different" - If you think being chased down by the paparazzi doesn't set you apart as different, you really do deserve The Darwin Award.

I find it funny how people can judge her as a good person but if you judge her as a bad person people go "how can you judge her?" double standard much? For me it's not so much the fact that she wanted to make money, that was her own decision and she had to live with the results. Almost everybody in the western world lives to make more and more money, no matter who or what they have to do for it. For me, taking of you clothes and sleeping with a few rich guys is not as bad as (falsly) kissing up to your superiors and getting ahead over other peoples backs.

Still, she did hurt a lot of other people with her escapades. Her son probably wouldn't O.D.ed if he wasn't HER son. Let's face it, rich and spoiled kids do this kind of stuff, more so than kids who have somewhat normal parents. Her life will have an impact on her daughter, although with some luck not much (so her death IS good for somebody). ANS dragged not just herself, but a lot of other people in the grave. That's why I don't respect her at all.

I can't understand why so many people DO respect her. There are so many idiots that shut of their brain as soon as "Hollywood Royalty" shows its ugly face. These people should not be seen as an example. They use and abuse people and substances, and ALL end up unhappy. Is that really how you want to end up? Just looking back at a great time while being unhappy ever after?

As long as there are idiots, there is Hollywood Royalty. Time for a revolution!

I completely agree that there is a "double standard" occuring on this board. An opinion's an opinion, no personal shots needed. She was a troubled woman, no one can deny that. I honestly don't think it's worth while to anyone to bicker about it, let alone do it on a meaningless internet site (that being said, i know you're gonna use the double standard and say "yeah... but your on the site too." that's true. but i work at a video store, and i'm completely bored!)

Anyways, she did distinguish herself-- But I think the person she portrayed herself as, isn't really the person she was. She showed a lot of parallels to Marilyn Monroe-- and I think she encouraged this within her image. However, like every human being, there are so many more layers residing than just that one dimension. Double standard yet again, right?
