Absolutely a total enthralling movie, but......

...one thing a bunch of you on this board think is that her mother held her back from the "big" Max Gordon audition.
In reality, regarding the scene in the restaurant when she approached him and did some half-ass attempt to entertain him, he was trying to blow her off by mentioning the audition. He realized she was a cuckoo bird and wanted her to go away.

It was just another example of her living in her warped, pretend world and, narcissisticly, believing she had a chance of becoming the next judy holloway, while she was actually being laughed at.

Sad, yes, but true.

What do you got on? Loafers? You don't slaughter animals in loafers!

Little Edie definitely built her own walls. To me, that is the saddest part of her story. She had advantages & opportunities, but could not break away from her mother.

So perhaps the right producer could have seen thru that cuckoo and things could have been different.

What I mean is I imagine every actor has that warped, pretend world and, narcissistic belief and some get the chance to develop it.

It sometimes takes the right circumstances to turn eccentricities into appreciated art.

Ephemeron.
