Series Finale (Spoilers)

Ok I didn't watch when the show was live but I'm going to assume that they knew the show was ending and that's why we got the ending we did. but I'd really like to know how others felt about the final? WE're you happy, disappeared in it? Me personally it was a mixture of both.

1.I hated the fact that Tyra came back and that her and Landry didn't have a scene together. It would have been nice to see that maybe they were still friends.
2. I hated the fact that Tyra and Tim hook up, I never saw the chemistry with them, and honestly we never really saw them as couple the whole series, only that they broke up in like the first episode.
3. I really likes that Matt and Julie got back together.
4. I have mixed feelings on the Taylor's moving. I'm glad that Eric compromised, but then on the other hand its hard for me to think of them moving and not being in Dillion.

As a whole I liked the series and glad that I watched it.

Those first 2 go together for me. It was just dumb. By the time the show starts, there is really no evidence Tim and Tyra are some romance for the ages couple. They hate each other, are cheating constantly, and have a very unhealthy relationship. They had much better chemistry as friends.

Meanwhile, Landry was clearly built up as the guy she loved and couldn't stay away from, but nothing. It would be different if Plemons was like unavailable or something, but he obviously wasn't. I hated what they did there acting like it was really all about Tim and Tyra.

Julie was only ever interesting with Matt, and to me that's because the guy who played Matt gave incredible performances on this show. Julie was painful as a character and actor, and it often seemed like the writers had no idea what to do with that character.

I thought the stuff with the Taylor's was handled poorly. It made no sense that Tami would pursue this job after Eric promised he wasn't leaving East Dillon. Made that character look naive, which is how I feel about that character in general throughout the series. So I guess it fits. All the writers had to do to make this work was wait for her to have the interview after the news of the teams being combined, but before Eric knew he had an offer to stay there and coach. You still get the compromise conflict, but without making Tami look bad.

I really don't mind the Tami/Eric compromise.

Throughout their marriage Tami's ambitions took a backseat to Coach's. In the first season they made it clear that the Taylors moved around a lot because of Coach's job.

Tami got a great opportunity in Philly, Julie was finally out of their hair and they had pretty much achieved all they could in Dillon. What would it have benefited them to stay - so Coach could win yet another State championship?

Their move is a step up for them both. They're still young and gorgeous and influential and inspirational and pretty much the Obamas without all the politics and stuff.

Where did I say they should have stayed? I'm talking purely about how it was handled. Tami pursued the job after she knew her husband promised he was staying. It could have been written in a way that didn't make Tami look bad. In the story she was actually right about it being her turn.

What would it have benefited them to stay - so Coach could win yet another State championship?

I don't think they should have stayed. I think her argument in the big picture was right. But, since you put it this way, I would say absolutely. They were a football family. Their whole lives were about getting to that specific situation they had at Dillon at the end. A juggernaut team that he helped build with a long-term contract. He would have owned that school. Then she was like, "I know this is everything we've been building towards for 18 years, but I'm gonna go behind your back to get a job that completely derails the last 18 years, and makes you break a promise".

So yes, staying to win another state championship is huge for a coach and family whose entire lives were dedicated to that. So again, I think they should have left, and wish it was handled better. But to your specific question, you say it like it's just some unimportant thing that is just brushed off. That was their whole lives.

I thought the same thing re the whole Landry-Tyra-Tim thing - I searched it at the time and the explanation was that the writers wanted the first few minutes of the finale to echo the first episode as much as possible, hence the players being interviewed pitch-side during practice in those directors chairs. Coach telling Tami they'd be now be able to afford a house with his-and-hers closets was also a shout out to the pilot.
So Tim and Tyra waking up together was a part of that, as was Landry interacting with Matt. And again, his mention of how they used to wonder how they'd even talk to Julie was another reference to the first episode.

The biggest upset for me was the Landry and Tyra thing. Wish they would have ended up together. But in all honesty the way it turned out was more realistic. It's hard for two to be friends when one is in love and the other isn't. I myself lost a friend because I was in love with her and she was not. It was easier for her to end the friendship than to see me in pain so things got awkward and I haven't seen or talked to her since. I imagine Laundry got rich and famous and bought a "Tyra" replacement. Or he started selling meth or became a butcher

I think Landry actually became a cop like his dad and liked to have Game Nights with his neighbors.
