Coach Taylor's best team?

who would win in a game of the Panthers from season 1 vs the Lions from season 5

reply

My money is on the Lions.

QB - Lions - better QB and harder to contain. Saracen had heart, but Vince had heart and more natural skill. Vince threw the deep ball on a national elite level. 60 yards chunks with the flex to the crowd afterwards.

RB - Panthers - Smash was the better pure runner, Riggins National ranked FB. Luke was a jack of all trades and great at the read option. However depth beats that so the Panthers get it

WR - Lions - Hastings with the jump ball and caught the 60 yard state championship pass

OL - wash - We never saw screen time with the Panthers, but you can't have Smash being a state leader in yards w/o an OL. Look at the Dallas Cowboys this year as an example or Philly Eagles last year. Lions had Tinker who was no slouch and could catch passes as well

Defense - Lions - I do not recall any standouts on the Panthers. Their season really focused on the offense. Tinker played very well at Nose Tackle. Luke was a All State caliber Safety and was like the Visa of Defensive backs; everywhere you want to be

Special Teams- Who cares, but if I had to choose, the Lions. Thats the squad that comes in when the real starters need a water break (per Billy Riggins). However, prior to injury, you had the myth, the legend, the man child, Buddy Garrity Jr! Also remember when Vince played on Special Teams that one play? He literally destroyed that returner

reply

Voodoo had more 'natural talent' and he got his ass beat down by Matty at State.

Who the *beep* cares about 'flexing to the crowd? How the *beep* does that help your team move the ball down the field? Oh wait, IT DOESN'T because guess what the ref throws a flag and you get a fifteen yard penalty for taunting. Way to showboat. Way to be a team player.

There is ZERO evidence that Hastings was the one who caught the Hail Mary at State. NO ONE WILL EVER KNOW. Could have been Hastings. Could have been Luke. Could have been whoever the hell that other Lions player whose name we never knew was.

I think the Panthers take it because unlike the Lions the Panthers players don't have to play offense and defense and thus won't get tired out.

^ you comes across as very angry. My post was light hearted

Every time I come back to this board that nutcase is still doing the same thing. He seriously has mental issues that need to be dealt with

reply

Vince had a thousand times more heart and perseverance than VooDoo. He was also more talented. So likening him to VooDoo is totally wrong.

reply

the kicking game goes to the Lions as Landry nailed that 40+ yard field goal

reply

Landry wasn't on the S5 team though sad to say. He was in college by then. He kicked the game winner in the s4 finale for the team that won only 2 games.

reply

I don't know who would win, but I am POSITIVE the outcome would come down to the last play of the game with the game clock expiring.

reply

LOL--don't forget, the winner would most definitely come from behind. Probably from at least twenty points down, too, and after the greatest halftime speech of Coach Taylor's career.

reply

There would also be a converted 2 point conversion as well

reply

I do think the Lions have the upperhand as Vince is a better & more versatile QB & the Lions defense in S5 was more know than the Panthers in S1. I'd predict --- Lions 30, Panthers 24

The team that captured King Kong.

I considered most of the football games to be entirely unrealistic. How many times does a team win with a miracle play as time runs out. According to FNL, it happens just about every other week, and always in the state championship. That is an entirely unrealistic way to portray football. Due to that, I don't feel it is possible really to assess any of the teams, because we only see the highlight plays and the phony endings.

If we went based on record, then it would be the 2010 Lions.

reply

I believe the Lions would win. That's just a guess.

A bit of the old ultraviolence...

reply

I think no one here has asked the most important question which of those teams is coached by Coach Eric Taylor? Because that is the team I would pick to win!

reply

Bumping this one. We seem to have a few newer FNL fans and would like if they weighed in sometime if possible.

reply

S1 Panthers, for sure.

Plus, the Saracen/Smash/Riggins trio was a more dynamic and cohesive team. I enjoyed the chemistry between those guys and the way they played with each other more than Luke/Vince...and I guess, Landry. Especially Matty and Smash, I think they were a great duo.

reply

Panthers. They were loaded with talent.

reply

For those that think the Lions would win, would your opinion change if Jason Street was QB for the Panthers instead of Saracen?
