Just got the set so I haven't watched everything on it but here's what I know for sure so far:
Disc 1: Death Note 1
Disc 2: Death Note 2 The Last Name
Disc 3: extras
They appear to be the longer versions not the shorter director's cut.
Audio options: original Japanese and American dub using many of the same voices as the anime series did.
Subtitle options: typical translation for the Japanese soundtrack and a screen text option so you can understand the text when listening to the English soundtrack.
The written and spoken translations are considerably different. I didn't compare all of both movies, but of what I did compare I thought the voice actors added more to the characters than the subtitles. With most foreign films I prefer watching them subtitled, but this cast does a really good job. I absolutely love Ryuk's English voice. The dub has some R rated language that the subtitles don't.
Even though the production values aren't anywhere close to what Hollywood might be able to produce, I'll take these over an "Americanized" version of the story any day. I can't imagine any actor alive being a more spot-on L. I'm excited about having these on Blu-ray.
Stand by for Ludicrous Speed......
