Will appeal to dork teachers

This one is pretty much for first year male teachers that are teaching English or Biology. It is not funny or intelligent.

oh, I don't know. I saw it with a friend who is a 10th year English teacher (and female), and I am a female 7th year English teacher...and we were laughing our butts off the entire time. Someone finally got a teaching movie right! The exhaustion, the frustration, the need for happy hour, the bumbling principal, the dedication to students, the students not suddenly becoming bright becons in the sky to save the day...it was funny, true, and intelligent in my mind. But then again, my kids do tell me I can be a dork at times.

i'm not a teacher at all and LOVED IT, so where does that put me?

Were any bio or English teachers even main characters in this movie?

I have never taught a day in my life and thought the film was great. Why? The teachers reminded me of teachers I had in high school (in some cases taken to extremes). And it really brought the human side of things to it.

Also, there's a lot of deadpan humor. You have to place yourself in their shoes, and it's not 'laugh out loud' funny, but it definitely made me chuckle. The whole film seemed VERY real and believable (apart from Mr. Stroope, who was a little over the top - I can't imagine a teacher still being allowed to teach after flipping a desk in anger while talking to a student).

There was a teacher at my high school who picked up at student's desk--with the student still sitting in the desk--and then just dropped them down.
But everyone loves that teacher, and he is definitely still there.

You think they call us plastic now, babe, just wait 'til I get through telling them how we do it.

I'd argue, but I'm a first year male English teacher. So, I can't really tell you that you're wrong, because from my world view as a first year male English teacher, it was fairly amusing, and in a good few parts quite intelligent. Looking through your posting history you also seem to have some level of distaste for Billy Connolly and David Mamet both of whom I find to be intelligent, thought-provoking entertainers. I only mention this to point out that everyone has their own taste, and just because your tastes don't reflect those of others doesn't mean that you should go around flinging insults about "dork teachers".

I taught three years but not full time - so that could explain why I didn't get completely burned out.

The movie was completely accurate.

I taught English and Computes - but I loved it and hated it - I stopped because of the pay not because I couldn't eventually get the class under control - I was a cross between both history teachers.

What hump?
