no child left behind

is this the most horrid thing they could do to students or what?
(the song based on "safety dance" that coach webb sung made me thing of this)
i don't know of any of my peers that agree with this act.
i'm hoping our next administration realizes this and gets rid of it.

I'm a teacher and I also hate the NCLBA. As for hoping that the government will reverse it: good luck. Public opinion is that it has helped our students and that teachers are all whining wusses who make too much money for too little work and there is talk about merit pay where test scores will be tied to student test scores. if that happens two things will happen:

1: there will be a mass exodus of qualified teachers in this country going to different careers. No one wants their livelihood to be dependent on how well a student does on a single day of the year. The system we have now where we are judged on our in class lessons through observations I think is fair.

2: students will be taught to the test even more than we do now. As it is I'm struggling to try to impart more than just test taking skills. Students are essentially being raised as middle managers who can perform on cue instead of think critically.

I want to choose my raw materials (students before I teach them) if you are going to judge my work by the product (students after I teach them). But wait a moment, how can I choose my raw materials if I'm expected to teach anyone and everyone who walks through my door?

Ohhh, I see it. It's called a "Catch-22" designed to break down the system "status quo." I get it. Now private schools can choose their raw materials and produce products with no regulations in place, yet I have to teach everyone under strict and heavy regulation, and now you want to judge me on my "product" instead of the process and work that I do to help this product learn something?

Now you want to tie my compensation to these raw materials and other situations affecting them that are beyond my control (hunger, lack of sleep, lacking home supervision, emotional problems, etc.)?

You want me to support my family on how well a student learns in my class without any regard to how much or little effort the student puts forth or how much support his/her family has for his learning? MY FAMILY IS GOING TO BE COMPROMISED BECAUSE OF SOMEONE ELSE'S?

Private schools are the types of schools to which politicians and hedge fund managers want to compare public schools. THIS IS NOT A FAIR COMPARISON, and the general public needs to know this.

NCLB is nothing but an attempt by the Ignorant in power to understand and simplify a complex system in an effort to devalue and degrade it. I feel so sorry for the children of today living in a society that is failing them, but kudos to the teachers who care enough to rise above it and who are there for these children.
