If I wasn't an Israeli...

If I wasn't an Israeli citizen I would rate the film - 3(out of 10), but being an Israeli I rate it - 2.

The film is a trifle from the point of view of art, as well as of moral.

Before the peace comes to Midlle East, we, maybe, will have many wars and the people of Israel must be as strong as possible. This film, which doesn't make difference between courageous and cowardish behaviours, brings no use to Israel.

Well I am also an Israeli citizen and I rated the film 8. I think it was well written, well directed, well shot and well acted.
I am also a resident of northern Israel (Emek Hahula) which means I lived through last summer's war, and I don't remember Israel being that strong to begin with. So, instaed of trying to be strong and hoping for more wars so it could kill more Arabs, Israel and it's citizens should strive for a peaceful resolution in the Middle East as soon as possible.

I don't aggry my brother. I heard allot about how left and tvustani this movie was, but after seeing it, I feel it was good, and presented logical behavior from valor soldiers, who instead of sitting and getting hit everyday, wanted to go to the nearest enemy and blow his head off.

For me, the film criticized the Israelian leadership weakness and undecissivness. Criticized Leaders like Olmert and Peretz.
If you were there, you too would be affraid, because if you would have died, it would be a stupid death, pointless. You would preffer to die attacking these Hizballah bitches.

Olmert and Peretz weren't responsible for the Lebanese retreat, Ehud Barak was. And Ariel Sharon was responsbile for the Gaza disengagement, a far more contreversial retreat than Lebanon - would you call them left and "tvustanim"? I don't think any of these were a testimen to the leaders themselves, it just needed to be done.

You can call me leftie and defeatist and soft-hearted, but I don't see what's valor about wanting to "blow the enemy's head off" after being stuck for 18 years in the oxymoron of a "security zone". Don't you think that's what they've been doing all these years? And what good did that do? They just got missiles instead of mortar bombs. They just got angrier.

I don't think this film was about politics or leaders at all. It was a personal story about the Israeli soldiers, very young men with the world on their shoulders and their lives on the line, who did what they were told in a complicated situation that they had no say or understanding in. (much like, say, Iraq for Americans?)
That's what was so sad and beautiful about it, and that's why it works. It doesn't matter what your political views were, almost everybody had to go through those emotions, whether they were a soldier themselves, or their brother was, or their friends, or anybody.

I am not an Israeli but i would like to understand the movie. I have it on my hard disk but cant find subtitles for it any where. Can any of you help?

Thank you Kicksey and Gnome for bringing some compassion and common sense to this little debate, on a message board that is so often diverted to political argument rather than discussion about the art of film making. Being from neither side of this conflict it's easy top see the hatred oozing from some of the comments in this thread. Art is meant to bring us together, we should not use it to drive ourselves apart.

I don't see nothing left or right wing. It looks like he did this movie as it is in real life and it just showing few soldiers who doing their job and having their own opinion about the situation. If you want talk about politics so.. why are they wars? Actually its for nothing it only makes profit and good image for some countries. Actually no one really wants peace on mid-east every one have their own interests and stuff.

Close. I rated it 4/10. It was plain boring.

You must lead a really exciting life if you find the daily prospect of death by mortar shelling boring. Silly boy.

reply

Following your "logic": whenever someone dies in a movie you get excited because in your everyday life the prospect of death is not present... Silly boy.

reply

That's not logic, it's just stupidity. Go and look up the meaning of the word or don't use it.

What makes you think you know anything about my life?

reply

That's not logic, it's just stupidity.

Right... So, instead of "following your logic" I should have written "following your stupidity"... hahahahahahahahaa

reply

I have to agree.
