Is this pro or anti israel?
Can anyone tell me?
sharemost probably neither
shareI agree -- neither. The film didn't try to paint the occupation of southern Lebanon as right or wrong, but dealt with the mindset of the IDF soldiers caught at the tail end of the 18-year operation.
shareExactly. it is neither. i saw it as a movie about soldiers trying to live with their situation at beaufort.

Even if the director came on screen and said, point blank, into the camera, "the occupation of Southern Lebanon by Israel was wrong and horrible," it would not be anti-Israel. You're confusing one particular policy of the Israeli government with the entire country of Israel and all its inhabitants. If you object to the US government taxing your income, does that make you "Anti-America"? Are you opposed to the entire United States and everyone in it? Of course not. You're just against the federal income tax. Likewise, critics of the occupation were not anti-Israel, just anti-occupation.
shareThis movie reflects the inner-Israeli conflict, when it became more more controversial, if there was a military and security benefit in holding those posts (like Beaufort)in Southern Lebanon, in order to secure Israel's northern border towns against Hizbollah attacks, or if the price in constant losses of Israeli soldiers had became too high.
It is known and a phenomena, that the Israeli society is more sensitive and vulnerable to soldier casualties, than those of civilians.
The complete and rushed retreat of the Israeli army from South Lebanon in 2000 under questionable circumstances has not brought quiet, but another war last year with Hizbollah.
