How could they make such a bad movie?

Too many cooks spoil the broth, that is the best way one can describe this movie.

We have the so called cream of Indian film makers involved, arguably the first familly of indian cinema "The Kapoor Family", Anil Kapoor and last but not the least, the very talented Sanjay Leela Bhansali.

The Moulin Rougue treatment given to the film was just bareable but the cluless leads was terible. Neither Randhir Kapoor Nor Sonam Kapoor can convince us about their charaters. And Mr Bhansali plzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz stop puting so many songs in your films.

We get it that more songs might give you more revenues from the audio sales but dont kill the movie for it.

In the end a bad use of good artistic talent.

was it really that bad?

Guys,i saw the movie today and i LOVED it.But i warn you it is a movie in which you have to read between the lines and you have to interpret some scenes for yourself so watch it very very carefully, try to understand what the director is saying instead of wondering about where the movie takes place,in what period or other such things and you'll love it.It not a movie you can watch and enjoy and understand while munching butter popcorn or slyly trying to answer your mobile in the cinema hall.

I've been reading so many negative reviews on Saawariya. It's good to hear that some people actually appreciated the film. I've been looking forward to seeing this film for a long time. I hope it lives up to expectations! And not to worry, I enjoy creating my own interpretion of films. Maybe that's why I'm an art film enthusiast.

I saw this movie last night, and I let myself get carried away with the music and the atmosphere the director created. it's not a movie for everybody to like. Loved the music numbers and the photography, art direction and costumes are amazing. I remember the first time I saw Moulin Rouge I didn't get it completely. but I saw it again ...and again...and now it's one of my favourite movies. Same will happen with this. it's a poetic journey. I agree that maybe 20 minutes less would have helped the movie, but, what the heck, it is what it is. Just sit, enjoy, sing and dance along. It's show time.

Its badder than bad. The newbies can not act to save their lives...Rani is strictly ok...the sets are like Venice...Mumbai...London combined....the era is port colonial...70s...God knows what....story is non existent...its always night...it rains perennially and snows the next moment...I am gonna sue the director!

I have already stated in my previous comment why this movie won't (and can't) be enjoyed by nitpicking , pseudo-intellectuals like sagehero ,who's lack of imagination reeks not only through his post but also through his ID,i mean, 'sagehero' OK,now lemme guess your name is sagehero because your are a saggittarius and 'considered' yourself to be a hero of sort,am I right.Alternatively, it could be something even more bloatedly egoistical and unimaginative like a combination of a Sage and a Hero, making it 'sagehero'.Either way....it's Sooooooooooooooooo predictably (yawns).

The movie was great. People are looking too much into it. They want a 'real' set, but if they paid attention to the movie, in the first scene, Rani says the place is just in her head. She made up the whole story. No place like that existed. That answers are ur questions on the 'reality' bit. I think it was a beautiful movie. It was a great love story, and Ranbir acted great. He's here to stay. The songs are beautiful. The colors are beautiful. If you're a romantic, you will love the movie. Dont look at the fact the place was imaginative. Watch the story that was being told.

why are you attacking on his/her nick? It sounds perfectly fine..."A rose by any other name would smell as sweet".

My goodness, people don't even understand that it can rain one day and it can snow the other day. Scientifically.
Saawariya is really very good and it has its own class. I will 1001% recommand you to watch it.

reply

Im very open minded but gocam20 is very accurate and quite kind in his comment. The movie would only work if you were intoxicated and in a very delirious state of mind.

Its not that the actors are bad, but that seasoned veterans like SLB has made them - more specifically Ranbir act and look like a complete moron.

This was 2 hours wasted from my life.

reply

OMG peeps you need to just chill. Just enjoy this movie. This film is good, the story is nice and the acting is also good, bare crap comes out and people accept it and love it, but when a film like this which is there to entertain with a selfless message comes, no one can accept it's beauty and simplicity and have to chat sh*te about it.I mean look at OSO, people are loving it, even though it is a rehash of stories told over and over again. If people out there wanna watch this film, I say go out there watch it and then make up your mind, don't listen to all these cynics who can't accept a beautiful movie.

reply

I can understand why some people liked it, but I thought it was a real disappointment. It was a beautiful looking film, and the basic structure of the story had potential. But the script was awful, and the two leads were the two least likable characters in the film. Too bad, really.

See I actually liked it for this reason. Raj and Sakina aren't the most likable characters, but that's what life is. You're not always going to like the personalities of people around you, so if you can genuinely not enjoy two characters despite them being the main story, means the others characters were so well worked that you have a comparison to make between all of them. I loved the movie, granted the tunes were a bit cheesy and I got tired of hearing Ranbir's voice so many times, but the general story itself is beautiful and was very well crafted. You aren't supposed to focus on the two main people, but on their obsessions and what it does to them.

reply

I will not point out its artistic merits. Thats pretty boring and makes no fing sense whatsoever to someone who didn't like it.

See the first time I saw the movie in a hall I abhorred it. It sucked. Big time. Nothing could salvage it for me. Not the effort. Not the scale. Nothing. Icame away from the hall cursing the director and joined the legions of bashers.

Several months later I saw it again on TV. Just flicking channels. I stopped to contemplate how bad it really was. Surprise. I sat through to the end...and liked it so much! It is really a film with a heart. Maybe ahead of its time. Maybe not. But maybe its meant to be watched without expectations.

Here is the story of S A A W A R I Y A

Rani is a prostitute.

Rani wants Ranbir. Ranbir loves Sonam. Sonam waits for Salman. Salman is a "gone"case. Ranbir and Sonam wander every night. They become friends. Sonam goes to bar with Ranbir. Sonam gets angry with Ranbir. Sonam slaps Ranbir. Ranbir goes to Rani. Rani orders men to kick Ranbir. Ranbir goes to Sonam. Sonam feels sorry. Sonam hugs Ranbir. Ranbir kisses Sonam. Salman stands in the bridge. Sonam ditches Ranbir and walks away with Salman.

I prefer a real horror movie instead for that 2 hour watchin' Saawariya. Its an extremely over-rated film. SLB might think he made a "dream" movie. I wud call it "artificial". When everything in the film: sets, props, costumes, lights, background of the characters, etc etc is artificial, how can one expect the feel, the emotions and the love, to be real ? I watched a beautiful Tamil film named "Iyarkai" in 2003 with the same story which really went on to win a national award.

Except for Ravi K.Chandran nothing is good in Saawariya. I wonder how Salman agreed to play such a character. Too much hype, media is creating these days and duds like these get a great opening. I hope SLB really comes out of his "blues" and "greens" and make a proper movie.

reply

cloudmaker ur a complete A A S H O l E and
i wonder how you got that way;was it coz u sat for 3 hrs watching OSO and the sheer amount of crappiness emanating from the movie screen was too much for your entire being to taken in which finally resulted in a hole in that part of your anatomy which Ranbir Kapoor has showed-off in the film you did not get.

Funny your comment is before the film opening Nov 9th. I heard that the other film being released in Mumbai is putting idiots on the internet to bad talk Saawariya. I guess you are one of the Yash guys. Indian film distributors such as the one you obviously work for have no class. Saawariya is a great and beutiful film and if you actually saw it and not paid to diss it you would have written something completely different. I do not see many Indian films but I loved this one.

reply

It was a pathetic movie. And pathetic dialogues were just one of the reasons. If they re calling it a musical, they must first understand what that means! Songs are supposed to be woven into the story-telling. Here, there are more than a dozen songs, appearing without rhyme and reason. The story is meant to make you sympathise with the jilted lover, but you end up saying good-riddance to him. Ranbir is irksome to say the least. Sonam Kapoor has clearly not inherited her father's acting genes - her strained and fake laughter at places makes you want to pinch yourself to ensure its not a bad nightmare. Sanjay Leela Bhansali is competing with Ram Gopal Verma to hit the rock-bottom first.

Watch it at your own risk! SERIOUSLY, how COULD they inflict such a BAD movie upon us ??

reply

THIS MOVIE WAS AMAZING.

If people can't appreciate artistic musicals then so be it. This movie was not only beautiful for the eyes and ears, it was relatable! Not many Hindi films these days are relatable to reality. This one was... because in the end:

[SPOILER]

[SPOILER]

With Sonam choosing the man she loved over the man that loved her. I mean in reality you always see that... we always choose the ones we love instead of the ones that love us, and we end up living difficult lives, but they're fulfilling because we're in love.

I think the message is a beautiful one. And it's so humane... I don't care what anyone says, Saawariya is a treat for the eyes, ears and heart. Who cares if Ranbir doesn't look cute, he played his part well, I believed he was in love with Sakina, and Sonam sure acted like she was in love with Iman...

Timeless film really. :)
