Underappreciated

Why does everyone hate this program? It's not supposed to be 100% accurate - it's a TV show.
The acting may not be as good as it could be, but it was far from being poor.
I agree it is predictable, but that's the sort of thing I like on Sunday night. I mean, if I'm tired and there's a long week ahead, do I want to watch some complicated murder mystery where you are constantly left in the dark to as where you are in the plot? No.

Besides, it is a lot better than some of the stupifying crap that's also on TV.

I just saw episode one on BBCAmerica tonight. I enjoyed it. I'm sick of all the crime shows, sitcoms and sex-filled soaps that American TV offers. I personally would be afraid to go to Africa at this time because of all the murder and slavery that's going on all over the Dark Continent, but it's nice to be able to sit safely at home and see the wonderful African countryside and those marvelous African animals that live nowhere else on earth. I'll watch as long as BBCAmerica shows it. I'm not going to critique the story line; anything with a vet and animals is my kind of story.

Yeah, it is something fresh, new and original. It doesn't rely on violence to entertain. Some of the people who pan this show are just disappointed it didn't have any sex, drugs, guns or alcohol.

reply

I agree - it's sunday night escapism at its best!!

Maybe its not the most accurate or the best acted but its good tv with stunning african countryside and animals. i know that this is the kind of tv that can "rot your brain" but surely watching tv should be like eating a balanced diet? - everything in moderation!

Stop! Nobody move... I've dropped me brain...!

the idea is. Unfortunately the storyline and direction are incredibly cliche.

There are plenty of places you can go in Africa without being less safe than if you visited any major American city. Post-genocide Rwanda, for example, is now one of the safest countries in Africa and one of only three countries in which you can trek to see the highly endangered mountain gorillas, an experience never to be forgotten. It's also great for chimpanzee treks. For a more traditional safari and the Big Five you can then pop over to neighboring Tanzania, politically stable and another of Africa's safest countries. Even Kenya (my personal favorite) is pretty safe if you limit your exposure to hot spots like Mombasa and Nairobi because the real danger to foreigners in Africa isn't in the bush; it's in the cities or in resorts around cities or near the borders of troublemakers like Somalia. Spend as little time as possible in the city centers and you'll probably be fine. I say probably because there's always the chance something could happen but isn't that true of anyplace? Believe me, there is no place like sub Saharan Africa and one should not let fear stop one from seeing some of it's awe inspiring but ever dwindling landscape and that landscape's majestic inhabitants.

It's the programmes that rely on violence and vulgarity to keep their jaded viewers interested that lack originality and credibility.

I love it. It's feel good television. Lots of sunshine, beautiful scenery, magnificent animals, and Du Plessis to bring in some humour. It's great.

I love the show aswell. I'm into all sorts of genre, but usually love drama etc. soap crap is not my thing, and I mostly watch action-based movies, but this show is something I used to follow each day.
It started to become a daily routine, each day I always stared at TV with a cup of coffee in me hands.

To bad it isn't showing here anymore, guess they didn't obtain the rights to 2nd season, prolly cause of no viewers, apart from me.

reply

I don't hate it, I just wish it didn't have those near enough 'cradle-snatching' relationships/moments towards the end.

reply

What do you mean? It lasted for seven series and has a respectable 7.2 rating on IMDB. That's far from everyone hating it.
