TERRIBLE PROGRAMME

I am old enough to have endured programmes such as DAKTARI and SKIPPY in the 1960s which used exotic foreign locations and cute wild animals to try to entertain us.

The makers of this programme would deny that WILD AT HEART is a similar programme but I think it is.
It is filmed in South Africa but looks like it was filmed in somebody's back garden in South London.
The scripts are awful,is very predictable and the acting is equally poor.
The people are meant to be living in Africa all the time but they are untanned and speak with perfect English accents.
Amanda Holden is beautiful but she needs to choose her parts more carefully, this prgramme exposes the gaps in her acting skills.

How's that? It looked like Africa to me.

Why does everyone hate this program? It's not supposed to be 100% accurate - it's a TV show.
The acting may not be as good as it could be, but it was far from being poor.
I agree it is predictable, but that's the sort of thing I like on Sunday night. I mean, if I'm tired and there's a long week ahead, do I want to watch some complicated murder mystery where you are constantly left in the dark to as where you are in the plot? No.

Besides, it is a lot better than some of the stupifying crap that's also on TV.

NOTHING that Stephen Tompkinson is in is awful, predictable, or poor. I absolutely love everything he does. I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE HIM!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm Guessing from your comments that you have never been to Africa then! It def is South Africa and not everyone picks up a South African Accent over there, especially if you are as remote and cut off as they are. Each to their own I guess, but I think that it is a top programme that does reflect life over there in that situation, pretty well. Ok it doesn't show the pure sheer hard slog but then that is not sexy tv n not really what the prog focusses on. But it does show the unrivalled beauty of the country and animals.

If you don't like it then I am sure you can find the energy to switch over.

The Trevanions are the only one's with perfect English accents because they are only supposed to have lived in South Africa for a couple of years. All the other character's have the appropraite South African (or otherwise) accents. And it definitley looks like Africa.

I read the comments with interest. I work for Amazon.co.uk and what you here on Wild at Heart, you hear at my place of work, we have people from all over Africa as well as Europe and the East/Far East. None of my associates speak "perfect English" neither do I. One of them talks just like Du Plessis in the series and one speaks just like the locals in the series.

I lived very close to where that is filmed, a long time ago, and whilst some of the animals aren't quite right (for example in a recent episode they had a Lynx - not found in Africa, they had a WHITE lion, they're found over at Timbavati and they probably borrowed it for that shot, last week's they had what Danny described as a baby hippopotamus - it wasn't it was a full grown PYGMY hippo, and they're only found in the Congo.)

I have worked in the game parks in Zambia (Northern Rhodesia then) and once in the Kruger in South Africa.

I write under the names of M J Vreen, Richards Kersey and Bob Curby and my books are about the sort of things portrayed in Ashley Pharoah's brilliant Wild at Heart.

Don't pick too many holes, it's well co-ordinated and mostly true to fact, if you'd like to know where it's filmed well it's a game lodge called GLEN AFRIC in the Pilansburg Game Reserve, Hartbeestpoort, 40 minutes outside Johannesburg.

Enjoy what's left of the series.

you cant say it looks like someones back yard and complain that theyre not tanned
its filmed on location in south africa and the cast stays there for months at a time when filming-cant you just accept they dont tan well or something?

reply

Hahaha, have you ever actually been to London? =P

I think they look pretty tanned tbh, they're not going to go completely dark beng British, and probably have to slather on suncream.

I like it, good for a Sunday Evening.

the writing of this show is incrdiably bad. It does look like africa, and the scenery is fantastic. But overall, the direction and writing are so bad that I can't watch it anymore, which is a shame because I like most of the actors and actresses.

"dad, I dug a hole."

The original poster was right. This programme is crap. I disagree with the comment that it looks like a backyard in London. I know of London backyards which are infinitely more beautiful. Unrivalled scenery? Don't make me laugh! The sooner this s h i t e is off our screens the better!!

reply

The scenery is very good but the stories are a bit tosh.

Its that man again!!
