Saw it last night in L.A.

Marvelous, funny and sad. Some of the stories that come from Mickey Dolenz and Eric Idle are hilarious. Footage of Nilsson at a session for "I'd Rather Be Dead" with an elderly choir has to be seen to be believed. This is a film that must see release. After the film, the producers talked for a bit and said that a DVD release was in the cards, but they holding out at least for a TV showing and maybe even a limited cinematic run so they can qualify for the oscars.

I'm certainly hoping a general release happens soon and that they'll be following it up with a soundtrack CD since there are a lot of songs in the film that have not been released such as a song about The Beatles ("They're John, Paul, George & Ringo... One is taken but three are single") and Nilsson singing the Popeye songs.

The theater (the Egyptian in Hollywood) was packed with Nilsson fans. I've seen lots of films there and it is hardly ever packed to the extreme that it was last night. Everyone had a marvelous time. A great film for Nilsson fans and a great film for those who would like to know Who Is Harry Nilsson.

P.S. - The producers wanted Ringo Starr to sit for an interview for the picture. Although Starr supported the film, he was apparently as close to Nilsson as he was to the Beatles and talking about Harry in public is still too painful. They said that Ringo and Harry had a plan... to grow old together. Very sad.
