A Black actor was the lead because

The character was a Black kid from New York who didn't know he was Puerto Rican at all. His Dad was a Black Latino (such as Sammy Sosa), so by mixing with a Black woman, the child looked Black (there are so many different Black skin tones so looking Black could really be anything). His mother and father fell out, and his father moved to PR, and Mom never informed him os his Latino roots. So, he's Black, because the character THOUGHT he was just a Black kid. Plus, Omarion isn't straight Black anyway. Just because he has a darker complexion doesn't mean anything. If you've ever seen his mother, she's mixed. (I don't know with what. Something like Native American.)

Just thought I'd clarify. Stop being outraged people.

Good, you shouldn't waste your money. It sucks out loud. I'm just saying, give the casting director a break with the Omarion as a Puerto Rican thing. They thought it through pretty well for the script.

Who said his father (Giancarlo Esposito) was half Black & Puerto Rican? I guess I missed that part of the movie. Being that he (Giancarlo) is half Black and half Italian he can pull off a number of ethnic roles.

Huh?

He's an Afro-Latino. And his mother in the film is dark skinned. Therefore, you could actually get Omarion.
