So at one point John comments that the story of Moses is based on ancient story about Misis, but I can't find any reference to this at all.
This movie seemed to try to stay true to history where possible ( well, at least not completely making up something arbitrary that had nothing to do with the story line.. ). anyone know what this was all about?

I have no clue about this but it could be information that only he knows and is otherwise not corroborated by history. So not being known doesn't make it false.

But a simple google search actually did turn up something for those keywords:
