Okay, So.... (spoilers)

She did all this, not because she was deranged and in love with him. But because she was deranged and wanted a book deal? That is, wanted him to read her story and make her famous - his number #1 client?

Uh, yeah.

He might be able to force publication of a book, but he can't make the public buy it. And from what I heard of the story she wrote, she sucked. Possibly a good plot, but the style and voice were awful.

lol, no. She did all this because she was deranged, wanted a book deal, and in love with him. I'm pretty sure in that order too.

From the looks of things, he's a partner and therefore in a position of power, I think she's figuring that if he could find her a really great editor that he can do the rest of the publicity work and she'll go straight to number one.

Even if all of that doesn't work, she still achieved something - she made him care.

She must've been a sucky assistant, how'd she have time to stalk him and write her book?

The writing didn't phase me, unfortunately. Lately, I've read short stories that have gotten published that I swear could have been written by monkeys.

It's not only short stories. It's full length novels too. And some that weren't at least written by monkeys were certainly edited by them. I can't count the number of plain typos that I've run across lately in professionally published books in the last few years.
