This was supposed to be sad, right?

The Christmas Blessing was a sad movie.

I'm sorry, I meant to say was 'The Christmas Blessing was a sad excuse for a sad movie.' This was supposed to be a tear-jerking, heart-warming story, yet I found myself laughing through a great deal of it.

Angus T. Jones gave a heart wrenching performance. When I watch 2 1/2 men I still think of him in that movie.

reply

lol! I agree, this movie and it's predecessor grossly overplay the sentiment to where they come across as quite fake, not to mention preachy which really turns me off.

The first movie was nothing like the book, what about this one (from the write-up, it does not sound like it) Has anyone actually read either book, they are wonderful!

reply

I agree. The books outweighed the movies by a landslide.
I kind of like the movies though.

reply

i thought i was way too preachy also. the only thing that kept me watching was angus t jones.

The christmas shoes was definitly more sad.

Idiots are fun. No wonder every village wants one.

I realize I am way late in the game regarding this convo, but just a quick observation...if "preachy" turns you off, perhaps you should avoid movies about Christmas (Jesus) and Heaven (death).

reply

You seriously think a grown woman dying is more sad than a small child dying? He died and a woman got his heart; I HATE *beep* bittersweet endings, they're worse than tragic endings! What's wrong with this author? The damn Christmas Shoes wasn't sad enough?

reply

Yeah, that was odd. Why didn't the dying woman help to save the kids life?

The dying woman I was referring to was in the 1st movie, which that poster seemed to think less sad. There was a woman who was dying here as well, but to answer your question, she couldn't have helped; her heart was weak too and probably couldn't have replaced his.

reply

But wait, it was his heart that saved her wasn't it? There must have been somthing else wrong with him that no one could cure...

The dying mother getting the shoes was poignant, sweet, touching, that might have made it less sad with everyone having time to get used to the idea and making all the arrangements and saying their goodbyes and spending quality time together.

I don't know.

yes just saw the movie my thoughts are different from most... i thought it was a great movie but then i see everyone ealses opinions. i still think its a good movie.

reply

Nope, it was his liver.

reply

Preachy? Anything that has a Christian-based theme is preachy to people. Sentimental? It's a freaking Christmas movie where somebody's dying, what else do you expect? Slapstick? lol

Exactly. A Lifetime Christmas movie. Like the Hallmark Christmas movies. They are supposed to be sentimental.
