I just saw the Swedish version, and when I came here afterwards I was confused at first that Jena Malone was sited everywhere as the narrator.

I thought the Swedish narration was beautiful, and I wouldn't want to see the movie dubbed in English. To me Lukas Moodison and his films are Swedish. I think his truest words are the ones he writes in Swedish, anything else is a translation, an approximation.

His next movie is in English though, to that'll be interesting. But of course that will be very different. The words in Container are poetry.

Lukas' movies are far from being very Swedish. He's very multicultural. I mean one of his best movies is mostly in Russian(Lilja 4-EVER). Container aswell is very good in English. Jena really nails the confused tired of life thing.

To me *beep* Amal, Lilja 4-EVER and Container are his best movies.

You're right about Lilja 4-EVER of course. Since I don't speak Russian it's difficult to say how good the dialog really was though. Still, I believe Container was first written in Swedish, and I would always want to see something in the original language if I can. Do you know who wrote the English narration on Container?

PS: "Fu(king Amal" sounds like screwing some Arab guy or something. :) Because I'm Scandinavian "Åmål" is a completely different word (pronounced more like AWE-maul).

I think Moodysson also wrote the english narration. I read somewhere he sent the script to Jena and she really loved it so she flew to Sweden. It does seem though that she adlibbed quite a bit of it since she refers to herself a bunch of times.
I have a feeling Moodysson gave her a general outline and said "fill in the blanks". I haven't seen the Swedish version but I have a feeling the narrative differs greatly.
That said, I think for me at least the English version will work best. Not because I don't like the sound of Swedish but more because this is the kind of movie that you shouldn't watch with subtitles.
For normal movies I don't mind subtitles at all but this movie works more subconsciously and it's a must to understand what's being said while at the same time being able to focus on the pictures on the screen.

As for the other movie title :) Well I don't know how to write those little circles on top of the A hehe. I don't have them on my keyboard and didn't know the ascii codes lol. I knew how to pronounce it though ;)

if english is your native language i definitely suggest it. i haven't seen the swedish version but Jena Malone's voice over is absolutely perfect and so haunting. i'm sure i would've never in a million years have gotten the same emotional experience if i saw the swedish version.
