Thanks for your vote, and I bet he would have been glad to know that you thought he was a talented man if he was still alive today.

He might be who knows, and I do have to say for being in his early 50's he looks pretty good for his age, it just to bad he got taken from us so song after he performed this concert. It was a year and a ccouple of months after he recored with friends live up on stage. He did on December 6th, 1988, and he pefromed this on September 30, 1987. I know it might be hard to believe that this was filmed in 87, even though it was filmed in black and white.

I do know of the song, but not really the concert that you are talking about that, could have been the final concert he did a few days before his death. I know that he played live on Austin City Limts on August 5, 1982. And it is on dvd, as well so you can watch it, he does a lot of the songs that he is know for, and he thoughs in some songs that really I guess wasn't hurge hits, or maybe during new songs. I can tell you that You Got It is on his final Album, it was either his final song he recored or 2nd to last, and the rest of the songs on the cd are his older songs. I bet he will always regret that though the rest of his life, and I bet he wore his sunglasses, and I bet you have heard the story of why he wore sunglasses right? I was born in 1983, and I was only 5 years old when he passed away.

Well I guess wearing sunglasses was better then wearning no glasses at all, even though it might be weird to see him pefroming indoors with sunglasses on, and you haven't heard the story, you have to being wonderign why he is wearing sunglasses inside, I have heard that story, and they have told that story on my local PBS station last how many times they have played it during hte informal time, you know when the changing of seasons, is ussualy when it plays on tv, but they did play it in its entirety, and made it look like they were going to take a pause on New Year's Eve. And I even saw a member posted about that why he wore sunglasses on his biography on this web site, well s/he asked if Roy was blind, and then the story was told.

Your welcome, and boy was that a fast post. I am only telling you from what I heard, from what I heard he had bad eye sight, and when he left his regular glasses on an airplane, and discovered the glasses was gone, all he had was these sunglasses that could help him see, and he used it for a concert and the rest is history.

this line seems to keep deleting the reason that RO always wore sunglasses....

My Favorite is In Dreams. Best song he ever wrote. And his eye condition was myopia, which is severe nearsightedness.

The clip of "You Got It" is recorded on the Diamond Antwerp Awards in 1988, December 2. It was his last concert ever. During that concert in Belgium, he sang also "Oh, Pretty Woman" and "Crying".
I am from Belgium. I am glad he was here!

I know the performance that you are talking about, but even with this post being almost 6 years old, but that was not his actual concert, it might be the last time he was even seen performing live on video, but his actual last concert was held on December 4, 1988 that was 2 days before his death. That concert was held at the Front Row theater in Highland Heights, Akron, Ohio. The show has been aviable on cd for some time now can't remember when it was released. But I don't think any footage was recorded from this concert which is a shame, since from what I see from the notes that it was a theater in the round and even an all weather theater. The theater closed in 1993, and it had only opened in 1974 mentioned in the liner notes. Among his bandmates for this show was Terry Elam (percussion) and Jim "Turbo" Kirby (keyboards) that both had also performed with him when he appeared on Austin City Limits that the show somehow was in the vaults, or which I remember being in the vaults of Austin City Limits until the show was released on cd and dvd during last decade. Try to find it in Belgium if you can, but it was at least good that he did get to perform live You Got It and video of it was recorded and even released, it has to be one of Roy Orbison's best songs from Mystery Girl.

My favorite (although it is very hard to choose) would have to be "Leah." I love the way the song progresses, it almost seems to spiral upwards. Very haunting melody.

'Oh, Pretty Woman.' The shock of the 50-something yr old 'Voice' nailing everything with a backup band of stars was building to a climax when perhaps the most recognizable 5 notes in rock began the final song. Extended solos and the buttercream smooth layering of notes by James Burton, never running out of guitar licks, made this #1 in my book.

I have to say "Comedians" always makes me cry. That, and it also reminds me of when I used to go see RHPS--"A toast to absent friends!"

But it's not easy to just say only one song is "best" cause they're all really good.

Are you pondering what I'm pondering?
I think so, Brain, but we're already naked.
