As of episode 5 not really connecting with this; should I continue?

Hi, I'm trying to decide whether to continue on with this show, and I thought I'd ask if the objections I have so far are likely to continue or whether there are good reasons to stick with this, since it's weirdness is in some ways quite appealing.

So far I feel this show is a little outside of my confusion tolerance. I like a certain weirdness in anime, and I decided to check this out because anime planet had it as a recommendation for those who liked Paranoia Agent, which is the best anime series I've ever seen.

The problem is that while shows like Paranoia Agent and FLCL mix their weird, mysterious, obscure concepts with more traditional narrative features like character development and story structure, Serial Experiment Lain feels more like just a series of confusing but thematically-connected imagery and text being thrown at me. It's more like an abstract poem or painting than a narrative piece. I have a vague idea of what's going on in general, but very little idea of what's going on specifically. To me, the last episode I watched, 5, seems like an abstract lecture on The Wired intercut with Mika having strange visions, and it made me feel like the show is more work than entertainment.

I realize that even though I've tried to be polite and clear in my objections, some of you will want to respond with, "you just don't get it you ignorant rube," because that's the nature of the Internet. But I'm hoping someone here will consider this question in the spirit in which it is asked and be able to tell me whether the frustration I'm feeling so far is pretty much what I should expect for the rest of the series or whether if I stick with it things might start to come together for me.

Thanks.

Hey I am sorry I responded so late, 28 days later in fact.

The show is only 13 Episodes logn so I'd say finish it. But while the plot trends do become soemwhat more cohesive as the series progresses, the show is more of an abstract art for Television and in that regard you are right, the show has no structured Narrative to follow. It realy doesn't improve that vastly in terms of connectign things.
