I cant believe i sat through this!!

Such a terrible film! kept waiting for something to happen and it never did. i just didnt get it and not sure how they dragged it out to over an hour.

reply

Not every movie needs something to happen.

reply

What "happened" here was the the brilliant dialog and acting. That was the action to me. I haven't laughed so much in a long time.

reply

not only the brilliant dialogue and acting... but the wonderful and yet simple camera work--also reminding us how to look a second time and enjoy a simple fresh viewpoint. and friendliness... what nowadays is often seen as something to avoid... unfortunately.

reply

That is the stupidest comment I have ever heard. Why don't you just stare at a blank screen if you don't want something to happen?

reply

I agree....Terrible movie...

reply

Yeah I kept waiting for something as well and was pretty disheartened when nothing did. It was just a waste of time.

A movie without big events is fine, but the dialog and interaction needs to make up for it. It didn't here.

reply

Waiting for something to happen? Something WAS happening from the moment the movie started. I guess some people just don't get it. Filmmaking is a creative endeavor, a form of art. Just because you're incapable of seeing it as such, does that make it a terrible film? Would you have been captivated with a few car crashes? Maybe automatic weapons fire? Or something else a little more superficial?

Try looking deeper next time, and you might discover the true art that filmmaking really is. Because with an attitude like yours, you're missing out on the true entertainment that it provides. For the rest of us, that is...

But hey, you're entitled to your opinion, even if it's laughed off as completely unqualified.

I kept waiting for a robot to show up. It never happened. ZERO STARS.

I thought this was one of the worst movies I've ever seen--definitely one of the bottom ten. I could go into specifics but it isn't worth wasting energy on.

reply

Why do people on this website always assume that when people don't share their taste in movies they simply "Don't get it" or if one person doesn't enjoy a particular low budget art house movie then they must be meatheads who only enjoy action movies? Trust me, I "got" this movie (what there was to get) and it bored me to tears.
It's very pretentious to assume your taste in movies stands on some higher ground than others. The beauty of cinema is that it is accessible to everyone and no one genre is superior to another.

Im totally clueless and have no idea what your trying to say.

I found the whole diners club thing very funny.... i havnt seen a diners club card used since 1998 at a Steak and Ale in houston. This old couple came in and got the early bird special. One 7 oz gristled sirloin split between the two of them.

I was responding to this post earlier:

...by the way, when you shorten the phrase "you are" it's "you're" not "your".

reply

it doesnt matter much as long as people know what your talk about

Actually, I thought too much happened. I like sort of quiet, low-key, simple movies where not too much happens because they feel...down-to-earth. The scenes where they were teaching each other songs and then at the end when they were making some weird pact and touching each other's hair detracted from the everyday life feel. I still haven't decided if I like this movie or not, but I didn't think it was boring.

"I am Jack's wasted life."

Some people just aren't deep enough to "get" this movie. It's okay though, someone's gotta swim in the shallow end while the adults are in deep end.

reply

Ya, this movie was amazing. Its rare that I watch a movie and it leaves me wanting more. The characters were easy to get attached to and care about what happens to them. I'm also glad that it wasn't a cheesy Rom-Com, not that there is anything wrong with those, it just wouldn't have done the movie justice to go in that direction. It's amazing how a movie so simple can surpass so many other Hollywood movies in artistic and entertainment value. I'm glad Morgan Freeman had the discernment to see the potential in this film and make it happen. Also, how could anyone watch this movie and not fall in love with Paz Vega???

This was not your typical Hollywood film.
This is a character-driven film instead of a plot-driven one.
The development of the characters from the beginning to the end of the movie is the key here and not the events of the film.
One would appreciate the film if the viewer would notice the change in Paz Vega's character,Scarlet from being contented to a low-end job to seeking improvement in her life to becoming an office secretary.
Also, another aspect of the film that one should notice is the development of the relationship between Morgan Freeman's character,Him and Scarlet from being a uncomfortable with one another at the start into becoming attracted to each other at the end of the film.
What made this movie work is the chemistry between Morgan Freeman and Paz Vega.
Also, they exchange of dialogues as well as their conversation from the supermarket until Him was dropped off into his house was simply credible.
