Why does this movie need four god damn sequels?

According to imdb there's going to be four sequels to this movie.... like why?? seriously just why???

just another giant cash grab for a writer, director and film studio who care more about special effects and CGI than they do about story...

you could say the same thing about Jurassic Park

Because James Cameron needs more god damn money!

reply

Because he has ideas to continue the story, just as books do. But just because movies are "planned" doesn't mean they'll happen. It depends on the series success. Considering this is the highest grossing movie of all time, those sequels are very likely to happen. I mean, just look at franchises like Friday the 13th with over 10 installments. Were THOSE necessary?

reply

No

And frankly at least two of them will never see the light of day.

Avatar's defenders don't seem to grasp the fact that repeated success with this franchise is...well...unobtainable.

Avatar was a groundbreaker in the special effects department...about 8 years ago.

Since then, for example, you've had 14 Marvel movies with dazzling special effects and CGI with critical and fan acclaim to back them up.

Avatar 2 isn't going to provide the same sense of wonderment as the first. Eye popping movies are standard now.

I think you underestimate the public. Transformers movies are nothing but eye garbage but they keep making money.

Avatar 2 isn't going to provide the same sense of wonderment as the first

Unless Cameron invents some new way to watch movies which, rumor has it, is exactly what he's doing.

LOL.

"two will never see the light of day"

Such amusing certainty.
What was it Bertrand Russell said about certainty?

"The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, and wise people so full of doubts."

Avatar was a masterpiece. I wouldn't mind seeing a part 2 or more as long as they stuck to the same formula. Your opinion sucks by the way.

reply

if that movie was a masterpiece then why did it take me three evenings/attempts until i was finally through? it dragged on and on with a plot so cringeworthy. i wish i could sit there in awe for more than two hours just because colorful pictures are moving before my eyes. sounds condescending but i know at least one person who is exactly like that. you know, someone who likes all of the marvel movies, paid for all to see them at the theaters, but when asked what he thinks about the infinity stones i got remarks like 'infinity what?' with the success of avatar i suspect many more of this kind out there. which is a blessing for the likes of cameron.
