How Goal 4 should go (if they decide to do one!)

My idea for Goal 4 and how it should all end. I know films take years to make and this took about 3 minutes so it probably sucks but hear me out...

During Goal 3, we learn Liam Adams signs for Newcastle and Santi for Spurs.

Goal 4 starts - After moving back and starting the seasons with their new clubs, Liam gets an injury during a game and gets taken to the hospital where Roz works.

Liam and Roz start talking while he's held in hospital and Liam soon realises that she is Santi's ex (she doesn't know Liam knows Santi). On leaving hospital, Liam tells Santi where she is and that she has a kid, who instantly rushes north to try and mend his relationship. He finds out he has a kid but she shoots him down and he heads back to London. Over the course of the season, she starts to pine for him and one of the last games of the season is...yes...Newcastle v Tottenham. She goes to the game with the kid and see him and they start to mend their relationship. It ends here, to leave the viewer to their own interpretation of what happens between them.

Its a bit weak I know, there would be a lot of detail to fill in, but its an idea that brings closure to Santi's story..and gives Liam Adams a purpose making Goal 3 have a bit more of a point to the series as it introduces the character who ultimately redeems Santi.

Its a shame Goal 3 was weaker than the first two, but if a Goal 4 could bring all strands together and blend the original characters with those in Goal 3 like i suggested above, it would make the series more complete and make Goal 3 less of a let down.

haha...give me control of Goal 4 and I'll bring back the magic of the first film and save the series!

Please feel free to leave any thoughts you have.

Thanks
Dom

this whole Liam and Charlie mess is much more rubbish than what it's worth to even bother dealing with . but maybe milkshakefilms is reading this and might wish to collaborate with you to make Goal 4 a reality. who knows.

I wasn't a big fan of the Liam and Charlie story either, but using something like i mentioned early would actually me Liam has a role to play within Santi's story and would make his introduction to the series less bitter.

I'm definately not saying it makes it good...but giving Liam some purpose on the overall story of Santi would hopefully help win some of the fans back.

hey its a good idea but theres one thing the fact that ross has a baby its too similer to goal 3 but you could do that liam tells roz how much santi misses her and regrets it till today as we see santi said that in goal 3 how big mistake he made and roz tells liam she misses santi thats when your storyline can kick in you could even say they started talking after a spectacluar goal of santi on the tv lets get the magic back to goal series

Goal 3 was so awful, if they ever got the funding to make a fourth one (which they won't) they should learn from their mistakes and pretend that everything that happened in the third film was a nightmare of Santi's. That is how low my opinion is of this film. I would actually rather them scrap any ackowledgment of it, and pretend it never happened, as opposed to try and recover the story as you suggest in your plot idea.

reply

the notion of viewers pretending that Goal 3 just never happened seems to be gaining some leverage..

and it being a nightmare of the character for Goal 4. yes, in a way it may seem twisted and *beep* up, but this might be the only way to go about it if milkshakefilms or whoever will throw out at viewers an attempt at Goal 4..which claims it would focus on wc 2010 some if wikipedia is correct, but when really the Goal 3 nightmare/non-existence/April Fools joke should have instead of waiting so long after wc 2006..oh well, *beep* it anyway..

You are the man Dom! Seriously, love your passion man. I think ALL of us feel a HUGE let down on Goal 3....honestly, they couldn't have done a worse job.

I know it is hard getting good actors that command a salary, but damn, you could have gotten a better director or something.

I waited so long for this movie - it could have gone down as one of the best sports movie franchises...but alas, they totally screwed this one up. Heck, I had a buddy buy me the bootleg copy in Thailand...so fired up to watch it too....then my entire weekend was blown after watching that flick.

I agree with most of you - this is NOT a GOAL movie and should be burned. I really think they could have marketed the first 2 in the US and would have had more money to work with in part 3...so sad, so sad, so sad. Don't the Europeans love soccer? Why didn't the Euro folks step up and make this happen? If this was a football movie, in the US, I can guarantee you this have had a bigger budget.

I am all for Dom directing #4!!! I love his take on the story - although it seem very predictable - it certainly would be better than what we have now.

So sad.

Hey redhook, thanks for the positive feedback...too many people on here just throw about abuse.

Yeah I'm from England and we are absolutely mad for soccer (we call it football) over here.

Yeah I defiantely agree the idea I put forward was definately on the predictable side, but if you watch all the films and look at where we are at the point in the story, there isn't many places to go to.

To be honest, the first two goal films were fairly predictable, but they had a certain quality to them that at least meant it held the interest. That would be the kind of spark I'd be looking to get in to the 4th. Bring back the feeling of the first two to show that the series is still true to its roots.

I know a lot of people hate number 3 (myself included) but I don't see any real purpose in eliminating it from the overall story arc. if some elements (and I'm only talking one or two as mentioned in my story idea) could be incorporated into number 4, and be incorporated well, then it could actually add a bit of credibility to 3 (although it wouldn't make it a better film)

Thanks for the feedback. Really appreciated.

Hey, I think if Santi's mother is dead and his brother Enrique would follow his foot steps.. to become a professional soccer player it would make it better...

I have been reading the posts about the movie and totally agree with the responses. I also rewatched it last night and remembered why I fast forwarded it the first time ;).

I think that GOAL IV should not be made because, let's face it, another movie will not be able to redeem the crap they released. Unfortunately for all of us fans of the GOAL movies, GOAL III will forever be embedded in our conscience.

Anyway, this is my quick dissection of the movie and here goes:

Santi is still playing for Real Madrid? but it has lead him to Germany for the 2006 World Cup. There are two new faces, Liam and Charlie, with the latter seeming to get more screen time due to his popularity, which is never really explained very well.

All three are injured in a car crash which I feel was a brazen attempt to try to follow a plot point later on that really did not work. I think the car crash should have had Liam driving the car and crashing it because of his alcohol abuse and this would have set the plot point up a little better.

After the car crash, Santi and Charlie are banged up with Liam not so bad. Santi has a broken arm and is out for three months while Charlie, you can pretty much tell the lead up to what will happen, is ok but looking worse for wear even after he gets out of hospital.

The football scenes of the World Cup were great, but the CGI and green screen placement of the actors (Mainly Charlie and Liam) was so out of whack that there emotions did not portray what was actually happening around them.

Anyway, on to why Roz, Gavin and Santi's manager, Glenn, were not even mentioned properly, let alone had cameo's. It probably was to do with scheduling conflicts or maybe they did not want to be a part of the franchise any longer for other reasons?

Throughout the movie, you seemed to get a sense that there was no direction and it was confusing at times. The actors seemed to also look lost and there were times that they looked uncomfortable.

I think it was a rush job because they wanted to get the 2006 World Cup footage and probably didn't have enough time to make it look more believable.

The scenes with Charlie in the German porno flick really should not have been in there, but I guess they were trying to fool the viewers with the "sex sells" idea and make them want to watch the movie further. Another portrayal of how Charlie meets Sophia probably could have worked a lot better.

I think the ending was ok but could have showed both Liam and Santi running onto the field with their respective Newcastle United and Tottenham Spurs guernseys running onto the field, looking at each other as they do so, smiling. Then the camera pans away from the players and upwards revealing the whole stadium and the chanting crowd and it ends there on a high.

Overall, this movie was not great to follow on from the previous two, but as a standalone, it could have had some potential. I feel it should have been called Goal 2.5 as a filler until the real Goal III gets made.

What do you think?

reply

nicely done write-up, but compared to especially Goal I, this Goal 3 is literally like a freaking horrific nightmare...

reply

Weaker than the first 2?? This is a complete sh** that it have nothing to do with the previous two films. A garbage in which Kuno Becker put the face.
They should make a new Goal 3 that continues the story an erase all the evidence of this one.

reply

my sibling actually came up with this, and it may have been thought of by someone else here already, but another possible plot is to have both Santi's brothers as star soccer players compete against one another to determine who is the better brother of the Munez legacy, and eventually a bitter feud begins between the two and Santi is caught in the middle on whom he wants to see succeed more...then of course a happy ending somehow with the brothers...however, Santi's brother in LA doesn't seem like he'd become very good soccer player though

reply

I think it would be better to just pretend Goal 3 was never made and make a new movie that continues where Goal 2 ends.

The dream DIED in the 3rd movie. It's over.
