Movie does identify her background and motive as Muslim

That scene where she's cleaning herself gives it away to anybody versed in Islamic theology. It's well documented that Muslim suicide bombers and so called Islamic 'holy warriors' clean their bodies before they begin their mission. They need to go to paradise clean and pure.

Without the Islamic religious element it makes no sense for a person to preen themselves before death. A suicide bomber is not going to leave a pretty physical corpse no matter how well the suicide bomber grooms. The cleaning is symbolic for Muslim terrorists.

So Muslims have ownership of ritual cleansing before death? The point Loktev was making in the film was one of the act itself, free of religion, country and background.

I thought it all the more terrifying, when you loose the supposed motivations mentioned for commiting such a heinous act. Then you view the act for what it is? Complete murderous insanity. IMO, it wasn't an exercise in type-casting. As you say, it's pretty clear from recent history, that it would be Muslim, Middle Eastern and oppressed.

It's not about oppresion. The 9/11 guys were never 'oppressed'. The victim mentality of the islamic world is a sickness that stems from its founding documents. The koran itself demands that they take over the world, and killing the infidels is the highest and best way.

Not many other idealogies have this part. Most have a golden rule section (due unto others) and to convert them to save them, not to get you a quick way into allah's little hellish-sounding surroundings.

Islam is the theology of the sufferer's, it's perceived oppression and an inability to take responsibility for the place in the world they have. The Qu'ran was dictated by an imaginary friend to an illiterate and who the other monotheist's thought was mad, what do you expect. Lot's of small man syndrome and book envy and a winged ass and lot's of time alone in a dark cave.

Well, for one thing the men she dealt w/in the beginning were go-betweens. The man & woman who hooked her up w/the backpack were the ones "utilizing" her. It was pretty obvious to me the woman had an Irish accent. I don't think the girl was Muslim or anything else. She was looking for an outlet for whatever pained her. Why not just kill herself w/out hurting others? Who knows?

she had obsessive compulsive disorder...or was totally neurotic. she was like that in how she dressed, cleaned, kept her things, etc. - even before the day of "death". the guys were just as neurotic. check out how they doted on her dress for that fateful day as well as the photograph. this is why she probably fell in line with the group - everyone seemed to be completely organized.

and she was not committing an act of terror.
she was committing an act of revenge.

That's the whole point. Why would you make this movie without delving into this? The how (she gets off a bus, she clips her toenails, she eats a pretzel....) is OK, but not at least touching on the why is a cop out - as is the bomb not going off. I don't care how "just" your cause is, if a movie ends with the heads of babies rolling in the street, no amount of understanding leads to compassion for the bomber. So, lets just make a movie that bypasses all that unpleasantness....

i thought she peed herself because she was so scared about killing herself, it took her awhile for her cajones to kick in

she was obviously muslim, only muslim people are suicide bombers, any other type of terrorist would just put the bomb in a garbage can & blow it up remotely, or under a pay phone like in die hard 3 haha
