Why she shed her school blazer so promptly? Did she thought that she would have no need in it anymore?

Well, possessions or not, but it will be reasonable to keep jackets - weather can change.))

They also left their shoes behind and went exploring barefoot; they couldn't have known that they would have a change of clothes and shoes hidden in the ruins.

Knowing just how uncomfortable old style UK school uniforms could be I don`t find it all that surprising that they got rid of a lot of what they were wearing once they found themselves on a beach with a much more Mediterranian climate than Britain. Even if it was summer (July-August 1941?).
