Were they simply trying to draw people's attention to the issue of alzheimers?
Or were they making a subtle statement about things getting old, that they get more poignant and serious (exactly what you don't want in a comedy show)?
Or was it both?
I think it was a callback to their comments on how Blackadder Goes Forth ends

shareI just re-watched all 4 series over the last couple of nights and i always dread the last sketch of the last series. Like the op, i don't get it, i assumed it was a callback to comedy shows being serious as the previous reply mentioned. But if so it's a bit of a weak call back as it's so random, it would have made more sense to include it in the same episode.
But i've noticed in a lot of their sketches there's a dark, serious element to them, even though they're making jokes out of them, but that sherlock holmes sketch really wasn't funny at all and i don't think it was trying to be.
Totally confusing and frustrating but still a great show!
Its for a point I hope but I dont like it
