Do you think this show would have been successful with a better lead?

Skyler Samuels isn't a lead actress.How she got the role is anyone's guess.

I liked Skyler, I think she did a good job as Chloe. My problem with the show was Brian and the fact that they kept pushing the Brian/Chloe relationship even though they were ridiculously dull together and she had way more chemistry with the other dude (I'm not sure if it was the actor or the character or both but something just wasn't working with Brian). So much focus was put on her relationship with him that it got annoying to watch.

They truly had no chemistry and it was really annoying how they kept pushing that relationship. I WANTED to watch the show and I WANTED it to not get cancelled but sadly the writers screwed up with it.

Plus, he's a college student dating an underage girl. That's so wrong. Alek was always there for Chloe to help her even when they were not getting along.

I agree with you, I think Skyler grew on me. But the whole production just looks a mess. I don't think her character was very well written and her friends where kind of flat. Also Sam looks waaay too old to be in highschool and the Paul role could've been much more interesting.

All in all the whole mai clan never grabbed me the way it should have. I think the whole show was done poorly and that reflects on the actors.

If The Gerstein Goblin didn't create this ruined romantic rubbish, then it must have been protege' of hers, at the very least! Who else would have insisted on blindly following a preconceived template, rather than follow the natural flow of the story itself. Stephan King wrote in his autobiography, that when he finishes a story, it is often very different than what he initially planned, that while in the midst of writing it, the story took over, and proceeded to write itself!

I don't know this Gerstein Goblin you speak of. :) But I just have to comment on the bit I quoted above... THANK YOU. I've been ranting about this sort of thing forever. Unfortunately there are a lot of TV shows that feel forced to me, instead of going with the flow and taking advantage of storytelling opportunities that present themselves. I hate that the Chloe King writers wouldn't bend and adapt their Original Vision... but it's definitely not the first show to be so inflexible and infuriating. This is a major beef of mine in general. I guess there are a lot of stubborn, egotistical, control-freak showrunners out there. :P

Interesting that Stephen King knows better. I've heard other authors say something similar...that the characters "took over" the story and made it turn out differently. At least some writers are smart enough to let the story go where it wants to go.

No. Sky was awesome as Chloe! She was so good for the role. Why you posted this in the first place is anyone's guess..

She's also a very good role model, wants to help others, is strong and independent and knows when to ask for help. Also, she had a very positive relationship with her mother. I really liked her in this role.
