This show was the best ABCF had.
Look, I enjoyed some of their other science fiction shows like Kyle, XY (My second fav show they had, with disappointing latter seasons). Ravenswood was terrible and Stitchers their new sci fi one is ok (but nothing fantastic).
Their other family dramas are OK, but I feel they are a dime a dozen.
But I really enjoyed this show. It was the first solid 10 I think they have done, despite starting off slow. Brian wasn't terrible, the chemistry wasn't that awful, and perfectly understandable if they bothered to understand her feelings as these appeared to be the first real relationships she has ever had. Stop expecting it to be too deep. In her current state, I don't think she was after anything that complex, and he was a cute match. There are a few types of working relationships, from complimentary, to opposites where they push each other (Alec would fit into this bill) and none of them are necessarily bad in context.
But the thing I really enjoyed the most was the mythology of the show, and I really wish they had time to develop the ideas of what the Uniter was supposed to really do, and many questions like that. This has such great potential, and it was cancelled way too soon. I really wish I watched this show sooner and perhaps got others to watch it back then. I feel it could have done so much better.
I liked the lead, Skyler and her character especially as well. They still had the silly teen angst drama, which was understandable. And when everything was just thrown upon her in the first episode, she was saying things like no and let me go home, etc. But came to the deeper understanding of her situation fast, and with much less stupidity than 90% of other TV shows with similar tropes I have seen. I found her approach to everything was actually honest to reality, which was refreshing. I enjoyed watching her develop. The only thing I could would really critique in that department is how she never told her mother, the other stupid overused superhero trope (and they are honest enough to actually say that in the show). Characters and people are put in more danger by the dangers put around them that they have no idea about - and they can't prepare for them.
I started off really enjoying this show, at about an 8.5/10, and slowly built up to a much better finished 10/10 product I think.
And people were saying the last episode was bad? I didn't like being stuck with a bad cliffhanger but nothing was really forced. The elements they brought in like the dad, etc I assumed would be in the finale anyway after being built up the entire series. Only the grandmother Olivia being central to the plot against Chloe was a surprise, and that is understandable plot development that has done wonders in other season finales in other great shows (like Fringe).
People said it was hard to follow the plots in the finale? It was actually a very easy one to follow, and certainly not like some of the convoluted mystery movies I have seen which other people actually enjoy. Perhaps people aren't used to having having to think on ABC family? I like thinking ahead in the TV shows I watch and play guesswork, sometimes with great results. The elements they used weren't thrown in last minute, but you could see develop.
