GAH! I'm a huge fan of Chris's skating. While Suzanne definitely won the flying and outclassed everyone, he equalled her in the second performance and his Bolero had far more fire, passion and connection. Suzanne just gave sexy skank eye and did some tricks that didn't suit the piece.

I am not pleased with this. Chris deserved the win. He performed all the way through and didn't bleat about injuries every week.

I think the right person won! She was amazing. Chris was good but I really didn't like him and his routines got a bit boring for me! Her 'music' was the best of the series, I just loved that!

reply

I think Chris deserved to win because he was consistently good week after week whereas Suzanne was not as strong. I agree that she excelled at the flying routine, but I thought her Bolero was equal to Chris', but not any better. He should have won as he was great throughout the whole series. I'm disappointed that the audience didn't pick up on this. I'm also disappointed that all of the votes cast in the original voting before the Bolero was performed were erased afterwards and the voting was started again from scratch. It doesn't seem fair to me that they did that.

Both Chris and Suzanne were consistanty good every week. They both had one poor week and IMO on the night the right person won.

She was fluid through both her routines and I think her bolero was better than Chris's too.

As a PP said. Not enough people voted for him so stop griping.

The votes were purely from the public this week so I think the judges votes were just their opinions this time.

Please!! She pulled it well and truly out of the bag last night and skated the pants off Chris 'chav shagger' Fountain.
He totally expected to win, and I was thrilled when Phillip announced that she had won. She was by far the better deserved champion. Unlike Chris, she had never skated before and deserved it far more. Not to mention the fact that she was far better at all 3 routines.

My roids burn with a wrath like vengence.

its the same as what happened on the xfactor last series. rhydian and chris were the favourites throughout then were outperformed on the night by leon and suzanne. i do think they flying routines are unfair though, its much easier for the girls to make it look good.

remember also that on this show the early favourite never wins:
Bonnie in series 1
Clare and Duncan in series 2
Chris in series 3

reply

suzanne was obviously going to win the flying routine
how can a guy look 'graceful' doing it?
its much harder for the males, i mean look at last years winner, kyran, he was really bad at flying.
i found this comment on another doi forum and decided to put it here:
"See, I thought I really wouldn't mind who won because all the finalists (in fact the last four) were all so good; but I was really disappointed when Suzanne Shaw won.

I've read a lot of stuff here about how Chris Fountain had an unfair advantage having played ice hockey before and have to say..um, no actually. Thats a case of apples and oranges. The disadvantage of having to "unlearn" incorrect moves far outweighs any perceived advantage. (Also I'm guessing that if Suzanne had been topping the leader board as often as Chris there would have been a whole lot of squealing about how her ballet and gymnastic experience was unfair). One of the pleasures of this series has been watching Chris gradually lose the typical hockey player blasting untidy "run across the ice stance" and gain grace and style.

Now I see a lot of comments about how wonderful Suzanne's flying was and yes it was lovely but Zaraah was very good too and Chris out did her on the routine. However, I thought all this was supposed to be irrelevant to the Champion result - isn't it meant to be judged on the Bolero alone? Wipe the slate clean, all past mistakes forgotten etc etc? don't think the voting should start until after both contestants have performed and I do wonder how many people regretted a premature vote when they got to see Suzanne and Matts routine. That was NOT a good bolero.

Chris & Frankie had a beautiful flowing routine that was performed very well and suited the music, Suzanne and Matt had a bitty jerky routine that was at odds with the music and had little mistakes and hitches in it. Yes, they may have been wanting to do the snake charmer for weeks but not had it fit with the music and I'm afraid it still didn't and should not have been in there. It was a real shame because Suzanne is a pleasure to watch when she is actually skating - the pairs spiral hinted at what could have been. So much of her on -ice time has been given over to time consuming big and dangerous lifts; Chris Fountains amazing spin and almost-axel, Zaraahs footwork or her own in unison moves from "Music" are far more impressive.

I felt the marking was inconsistant - if you penalize Chris for fluffing the ending (though really if you hadn't seen it before who would have known) you should mark Suzanne down for muffing some of the steps...

The other gripe was the camera's keep focusing on Suzanne's son - he was crying most of the time and probably should not have been there. Unfortunately it made me even more disgusted by her blatant bit of manipulation and vote begging using her son - my boy's going to be there and he would so like to see his Mummy win blah blah- yuck. Perhaps it is just as well she won Dancing on Ice, the Celebrity Mum of the Year people might want their trophy back. "

for those of you who were nice enough to read all of that, you ave to agree right? chris shouldve won. (btw have you seen zaraahs bolero? it easily beats suzannes)

reply

No, Suzanne's Bolero, Music and flying were better than Chris's routines

I totally agree with your comment on Suzanne's son - he looked really distressed and tired. As a mother myself I just found myself shouting at the screen "someone take him out of there". Suzanne should feel ashamed of herself for even having him in the middle of that "wall of noise" that he was surrounded by.

Whoever was holding Corey (guessing it's Suzanne's partner, whatever his name might be) should have had the sensitivity and intellgence to ignore the "heartstring tugging" that Corey's presence was in aid of and done the right thing by the boy. The noise was loud enough on normal volume on the TV - it must have been terrifying to a 3 year old boy.

Shame on her as a mother - I didn't warm to her at all during the whole series, I'm afraid (too full of herself, too obviously thinking "I'm wonderful" but trying to pretend she was a modest little "poor me") and that just about put the tin lid on it for me.

I really didn't mind who won in the end, I got the final I was looking forward to for weeks.
I'm suprised there's so much negativity and hatred directed towards Suzanne though.
I thought she was a worthy winner, who had performed consistently well throughout the series, but for the final, like all true champions, she found a fifth gear and cruised ahead of Chris.
Not taking anything away from Chris, who I loved watching each week, or Zaraah who improved week by week and was a worthy finalist. But Suzanne and Matt delivered something special for the final, which was recognised by not only the judges, but the viewing public who voted them winners.

The personal attacks on Suzanne I find quite spiteful and unnecessary.
Remember, all the interviews and video clips are heavily edited and totally out of her control. At one time or another, all the celebrities had injuries, falls, negative days, sulks, arguements etc. what gets aired on the show is down to the producers.
I don't understand the critisism that Suzanne was taking it too seriously/trying too hard to win. Trust me, with all the training, work and injuries they all sustained, Chris and Zaraah were taking it every bit as seriously as Suzanne and wanted to win just as badly. The expression on Chris' face when Suzanne was announced winner testifies to that.

Finally, I notice several of you have been giving Suzanne flack for bringing along her small son.
Most people want their family involved during momentous moments in their lives. In years to come I would imaginn Corey would be very disappointed to have been left out of his mum's moment of glory, had he been left at home.
Not to mention that throughout the series both Steve and Greg had their small daughters in the audience, but nobody saw fit to critisise them for it.

For me it was a great final, the best by far and I congratulate all three finalists.
I have tickets to see the tour next month and with all three finalists included in the line-up it looks like it's going to be even better than last year.

I think both of them were good dancers and skaters, remembering that both of these factors were equal weights for the entire package.

Looking back on Torvill and Dean's 1984 Bolero, you can clearly see that you don't need over-the-top lifts or jumps to be a winner. Flow, elegance and seamless choreography can and does win, and I think Suzanne rightfully nipped it to the finish post.

reply

'you dont need over the top lifts'

you seem to forget that suzanne spent more than half of her routines being lifted, whereas chris was actually doing the lifting. i think youll agree thats a lot harder.

the reporter deserves an award.

also, loads of people have been complaining that they couldnt get through to vote. how many people have been complaining about suzannes phone lines? theres even a vote on an msn site, was chris fountain robbed? 54% said yes.

i remain convinced it was fixed by itv for her to win because of chris not being able to do many of the tour dates.

I know this thread is really old but I totally agree! Chris deserved to win and I think they used the sympathy vote for Suzanne in the final because whenever they went on tour he seemed to have a much bigger fanbase than she did so it didn't really make sense. The way they kept showing footage of her son ('I would love for my son to see his mummy crowned champion') and went on and on about the injuries and that blasted headbanger was bloody annoying... I mean, I don't see why they made such a fuss about that, Lisa Scott-Lee did the same move the year before and they didn't exploit it every chance they got. So infuriating.
It also annoyed me when people kept going on about his history with ice-hockey, which is completely different technically-speaking and even considering the blades, and yet no-one mentioned how Suzanne was a trained dancer and gymnast since about the age of 6?!?!

you seem to forget that suzanne spent more than half of her routines being lifted, whereas chris was actually doing the lifting. i think youll agree thats a lot harder.

Also so true!

I can't put into words how much Suzanne got on my nerves. And then watching the Christmas Dancing on Ice special a couple of weeks ago where she got straight 6s again and said 'I admit I was a little bit pleased that I pipped Chris Fountain to the post, again!' Aggggghhh she really annoys me. Please! So her flying routine was better. She is a professional dancer, has done ballet and is a woman, she's bound to be more graceful in the air. Her music routine was very good but it was nothing to Chris's Time Warp, Stuck in the Middle or Cry Me a River, and he was doing daring stunts that Suzanne wouldn't dare try. So she did a headbanger twist lift. Wow. She had the support of her strong male partner for that. Her bolero wasn't as good, either. Fix in my opinion.
