i also enjoyed this movie very much. it served as an introduction to a world that i've never seen. funny … i've been enjoying turkish music but didn't recognize the spoken language, so it took me a couple of minutes to figure out what country the movie was taking place in.
everything about "takva" was fascinating: the surroundings/scenery, the depiction of a "man's world"--the likes of which i'd only heard and read about, and the conflicts between 'holy' and 'worldly.' the seyh definitely talked a good game, but as a black american, i was very skeptical and looking for subtext. some of the tenets by which muharrem tried to live could be considered admirable, but it was interesting to see how unprepared he was for the larger world. those tenets became useless to him and he ended up discarding them, which contributed to his unraveling at the end. it was truly sad when muharrem came to the conclusion that mankind itself was the devil. it's impossible to work toward the betterment of people when you feel that they're unworthy.
anyway, great movie! i'm grateful to link TV for expanding my little world! :)
