triggering?

so i found the original sybil very triggering with it's depictions of abuse/flashbacks. i promised my mom i would look into the remake....was it graphic?

I don't recall any actual depictions of abuse in this version, just a few menacing shots of the mother holding items such as a bottonhook and a hot water bottle. Abusive acts were described a few times, but there was nowhere near as much tension or suspense surrounding the reveal of the specifics of the abuse as there was in the original.

Sybil's reactions as she was reliving certain memories were still very wrenching however and I found those parts fairly triggering myself. You will probably find this movie easier to swallow than the first, but since it's presenting the same difficult subject matter, it's still disturbing to watch.

Triggers are different for different people. I personally find it triggering for me. Both versions were. If you were abused as a child as she talks about her own abuse it’s natural to think of your own. As she deals with it it is natural to think how you handle it. When it comes to movies like I have to accept it may be triggering and be ready to accept what may come up in my own mind.
