As frightening as the original?

I saw the original version in the Eighties and I´m not sure I ever recovered from it, although the film is remarkable and Sally Field outstanding.

The scenes with the mother in flashbacks are among the most difficult scenes I´ve ever seen and I thought it was too much - for me.

Is this one as difficult to watch?

Until yesterday I didn’t even a remake had existed. While I think it holds its own surprisingly well, it doesn’t come close to matching the original’s potency.
