Can rape/sexual abuse victims recover?

Controversial and disturbing subject, I know.

This is in a way a companion piece to one thread below about whether or not a rapist can be redeemed or cured, but I was wondering, can victims be healed and/or also cured and thus recover?

If they don't also suffer an STD or get killed during the act or commit suicide etc?

Still, even if they could, and even if the offender did it once, they should still face legal punishment for a long term of preferably no less than 10 years but of course in any case, should not do it in the first place.

But with the above example, is it possible, thanks.

P.S. Does a movie, this one, even touch on that?

P.S. Its obvious the perpetrators of this deed are guilty, to blame and deserve punishment and later hopefully rehabilitation. But I also wonder, if society and the world was also kinder and nicer to victims, even as such for reasons as to how being otherwise wouldn't cross their minds, would they be able to recover more effectively? And also, is it really so complex here and not just "oh, someone being ignorant, stupid, sadistic for own sake, a total jerk, an idiot etc" - as wrong and bad as it is in any case though, cheers.
