Why the Change??

John Clark is of Irish ancestry in the Clancy novels, so the change in race puzzles me. Is this just another example of virtue-signalling by Hollywood?

reply

Apparently they didn't learn the lesson from the FF debacle.

reply

FF debacle?? What do you mean?

reply

Fantastic Four (2015). They picked Michael B. Jordan because he was such a great actor. Fans couldn't get over the change in the character (as well as other characters) which contributed to the film's flop.

reply

That's a bullshit and racist revisionist history. ff flopped because it's an awful movie

reply

It was an awful movie but my remark is not racist. Reed was a youngster vesrsus the father figure. Ben was a puny guy who didn’t have the humor of the character. And less said about the Doom interpretation the better. Fans could not accept these changes as well. These also contributed to A lot of fans never even going to see it. When the studios stray too far from the source they alienate the original fans.

reply

It is an awful movie but there were a lot of racist reactions to the casting. I remember how it turned that movie's discussion board into a Stormfront colony.

reply

Racist was the producers putting in a black guy in a role that was supposed to be white. Johnny Storm was the sister of the the girl so you can't have one white and one black, making that switch was racist as fuck.

reply

I am pretty sure Johnny Storm was the brother of the girl. And in this version the STEPbrother . So what?

reply

So they change the races for simply to stick a black man in the role, it wasn't as if he was the only actor available. The change wasn't required for the movie it was just done as a racist act.

reply

So making a black dude play the role is racist and moaning about a black dude playing the role is not racist at all? Strange...

reply

No, not strange at all. If someone made a movie and cast a Chinese guy as Martin Luther King to make the Chinese people happy that would be racist.. if a black guy said that it was racist it wouldn't be racist for him to say it, it would simply be stating a fact. If you are too stupid to understand that then I'm amazed your brain has the capacity to tell your lungs to breath.

reply

MLK was a REAL historic person. A stupid comic figure is not.
To be called stupid by a racist is a complement.

reply

Who cares if he was real, Alexander Hamilton was real but I didn't notice any of the woke warriors getting upset when they got Puerto Rican to play him, Thomas Jefferson and Aaron Burn were white guys but they crammed two black guys in those roles... Did the woke warriors say anything... nope just crickets as the all flocked to throw their money at it for tickets. So spare me the MLK was real, so fucking what. If the liberal cunts can play racial switcharoo with historical figures then so can anyone else.

reply

Anne Boleyn was a real woman.

A real white woman.

Now being played by a black woman.

That is ok and progressive and celebrated but complain about this and get called a racist or some other 'ism'

Their is a word for that.............hypocrisy

You cannot celebrate one way and deride the other. It is either allowed in all directions of colour/gender or not at all.

reply

The Anne Boleyn thing is indeed ridiculous. Not hypocrite, because Anne Boleyn is again a historical figure, not a fictional one.

reply

So what? Fictional history is still history.

We celebrate and pass down fiction and non-fictional stories alike because of their artistic and historic merit. Changing and REVISING fiction and non-fiction for the sake of agitprop is disgusting. Anyone who supports it is disgusting.

The proper response is to simply create a new character and new stories, as opposed to revising history.

Only Communists support historical revisionism. And Communists have no place in free countries.

reply

Agree until the communist rant starts. It was always communists AND FASCISTS who support historical revisionism.

reply

Actually she was supposed to be adopted.

reply

M B Jordan purposely goes after roles written for white men. That’s racist bullshit. I’ll never watch anything with him in it

reply

Cry

reply

A great actor ... Who can't act?

Or is he just good because he is African?

reply

You know if it was reversed with the book character being black, and the actor being white, there was CNN article about "cultural appropriation" and twitter bluechecks calling for a boycott. Its unfortunately the era we live in, especially in anglophone countries.

reply

You're proobably right. Like I said in the OP, it is likely nothing more than virtue signalling from Hollywood, telling the rest of us how 'woke' they are. And they can't really claim that the public wants this, as I understand that most 'woke' films are not great box office draws.

reply

No probably about it. The film would be boycotted in a second

reply

as I understand that most 'woke' films are not great box office draws.

"Get Woke, Go Broke" exists for a reason.

Disney hasn't even been able to make back everything they dumped into their Star Wars films, and the last two films in the trilogy weren't even profitable, along with that Solo flick, despite them all making hundreds of millions of dollars. However, due to production + marketing costs, all the wokeness turned off a lot of fans so that's why they had to put a bunch of Star Wars projects on ice.

https://deadline.com/2020/04/star-wars-rise-of-skywalker-movie-profit-2019-lowest-for-lucasfilm-1202915179/

Disney+is even seeing slowdown after the initial spikes:

With more woke garbage on the way and censorship afoot, expect more people to keep dropping out.

As for smaller woke projects? Those are just fluttering and sputtering away as people nope right on out, which is why they just stop talking about box office/streaming numbers for those films altogether.

But it's not about the money for them... it's about spreading their degenerate message.

reply

Yes.

reply

Yes.

Just heard of this movie, super hyped, googled it...saw Jordan's face over the name "Clark" and was like "WTF!?".
But I guess for criticizing this I'm a racist or something...

I'll boycott the movie just for that.
If you disrespect your source material like this from the get go... I don't even want to see the rest.

Fuck this shit. I'd rather read Clancy's books again.

reply

I’ve been wanting this movie since I couldn’t set the book down in the mid-90s.

Then I see Michael Jordan cast.

Vomit.

No thanks.

So disappointing.

reply

You made a good decision. The movie reminded me of the direct to video shit you used to see in Blockbusters. A movie so fucking bad that no movie distributor would waste their time on it. It was garbage that only seemed to pull in Clancy's name as a way to try and legitimize what was completel shit.

reply

It's about time a black man was in a movie. Progress.

reply

Movies have always had Black people in them. I don't have a problem with this. What I am talking about is changing White characters to Black simply to allow Hollywood 'progressives' to tell the world how 'woke' they are.

It's about time a black man was in a movie. Progress.

reply

White characters need to become black characters so we can then finally address racial inequities.

reply

No, they don't.

reply

For fucks sake activate your sarcasm radar.
He is clearly being sarcastic.

What is wrong with so many people here falling for these sort of posts all the time?

reply

There are a lot of people in the USA that actually do believe that tripe. For all I know, the poster that you are so ardently defending is one of them.

reply

I took a look at Trevor's post history - he enjoys triggering people - republicans and democrats alike.

His comment here most certainly reads as being sarcastic.... but he may have actually been trying to trigger some peeps as well - u never know.

reply

I wasn't triggered. I merely disagreed with his premise.

I took a look at Trevor's post history - he enjoys triggering people - republicans and democrats alike.

reply

Lol you were absolutely triggered.

Also you are unintelligent.

reply

Poe’s Law: “Without a clear indicator of the author's intent, it’s impossible on an internet blog to create a parody of extreme views that cannot be mistaken for a sincere expression of the views being parodied”

reply

lol
When the gay radar is too strong, sarcasm radar fails.

reply

Absolute, maybe get Kevin James to play Martin Luther King, just to show how woke the movie would be they could cast Peter Dinklage as Cassius Clay... now you not only click a race box but a handicapped box as well.

reply

No. Only black actors can play black characters and only black actors can now play white characters. When they comprise 100% of acting jobs then we can talk about more reparations for black people who have been enslaved for 400 years.

reply

Find a former slave in America... You can't find any former slave anymore than you can find former slave owners. Blacks in this country have been free long enough to make it for fail on their own. Generally they fail, but it isn't because the system is trying to fuck them over. It is because black culture is the problem and it fosters failures. Go look at Martin Luther Kings speech Some Things We Must Do from 1957. Here is a little tidbit where he highlights the failures of the black culture:

"Negroes constitute ten percent of the population of New York City, and yet they commit thirty-five percent of the crime. St. Louis, Missouri: the Negroes constitute twenty-six percent of the population, and yet seventy-six percent of the persons on the list for aid to dependent children are Negroes. We have eight times more illegitimacy than white persons. We’ve got to face all of these things. We must work to improve these standards. We must sit down quietly by the wayside, and ask ourselves: “Where can we improve?”"

Well the sad fucking fact is the blacks in America never did take those word to heart and sit down to find ways to improve themselves. Instead they just rant about how someone else is responsible for their shitty place in the world. If you want to play the part of a victim then fine enjoy the act, but most of us that realize it is complete bullshit aren't going to hand you money and say, "poor little black boy, let me make it better".

reply

We need more RDJ ;)

reply

The movie start with worst woke shit than that. The SEALs don't have any women in their ranks, not now, not ever. Yet here we have Grace Jones daughter as a SEAL... that was pure woke bullshit.

True, about the woke BS part, but where do you get that Jodie Turner-Smith is Grace Jones' daughter? I presume that is who you meant.

reply

I know she isn't actually her daughter but she had the same type of haircut and queen bitch attitude that Grace Jones used to have in everything I remember her in... probably not as tall or talented though.

reply

Have you never heard of Phil Lynott?

reply

I may have heard the name, but that's it.

Have you never heard of Phil Lynott?

reply

Famous black Irish singer. They do exist, you know?

reply

I'm afraid that the point you are trying to make escapes me.

reply

>John Clark is of Irish ancestry in the Clancy novels, so the change in race puzzles me

You assuming Irish=white. You also think America is a white nation?

reply

Tom Clancy's John Clark was White. Clancy gave no indication otherwise. Do you have any evidence that the character in the book or the subsequent stories was a Black man? If you do, I'd like to see it, please.

reply

Yeah apparently he hang out in the hood keeping it real my N.

reply

Eddie Murphy is irish
