Doesn't make sense

I was a big fan of the original ringu (the Japanese Version) I bought the book which was obviously different from the movie but made so much more interesting the movie afterwards.
When the American version with Naomi Watts came out I thought was really good, very spooky and cleverly made even so the back ground story was very different, but there was an element in common with all the movie, her father was of unknown origin even so in the ringu is heavily implied.
Now we all know her father wasn't human, why in this version he's a human being is hard to comprehend. Why would she have such a strong powers is for was not half demon herself.

What things implied that her father was a demon? I've never read the book and it's been a while since I've seen Ringu.

In the book is way more specific but in the movie when he go back to the birthplace of Sadako and meet the grandparents, they tell the story of how her mother (who use to have powers) use to sit every day by the water, she was drown by a misterius force in the ocean, when she got pregnant the grandfather said something odd about how weird she was. Is implied the father is a water demon of some kind.

I didn't know they had a novel. The water demon would make sense. Evil girl who cursed a tape and using souls.
