In the first movie when Samara's Skelton was removed from the well (offscreen - that Burke may have dug her grave and stole her body and put her in the wall in the church) there is no doubt that Richard and Anna had hid anything behind Samara"s back and not telling her the truth of her biological family after they adopted her
