Any more rings movie?

Are they making another one after this one?

reply

I'm not sure, but I kinda hope they do though. I also hope they can make like maybe a prequel on how it all happened or at least maybe a sequel where they can explain how or why Samara had started it all

reply

Of course they're going to make another one, it was evident from the endidng of this turd.

Dumb question BTW.

reply

Well they definitely set it up for there to be another one, but that doesn't mean they'll be able to make it happen. Anything could happen and box office often speaks values when it comes to a next movie being made. According to a user below, this movie successfully made past it's budget so that's a plus. Hopefully we get another one out by 2020.

I agree, but I also think you meant "speaks volumes".

Numbnuts!

The president of marketing and distribution at Paramount said they're still waiting to see if it makes more money. Currently it has grossed 32.8 million on a budget of 25 million. The previous head of that division said a sequel was a sure thing, but he was fired so those plans are up in the air now.

reply

Why was he fired? And I don't think it's necessary for it to make more money if it managed to make eight million passed it's budget. That's rather good, unless they don't want to pull out anymore money from the company itself to make the sequel happen and simply use movie from what the audience bring in. How much money are they looking for it to raise up to? Do you know?

reply

He was fired because of corporate stuff:

A source close to the situation said that the decision to ask for Moore’s resignation was made by the board of Viacom, Paramount’s corporate parent. Moore had been one of the major proponents of former Viacom Chairman Philippe Dauman’s push for Paramount to sell a minority stake in the company to Dalian Wanda. But after Viacom Board Vice-Chair Shari Redstone successfully orchestrated Dauman’s ouster last summer, the decision was made to abandon the sale process over Moore’s objections.

The movie doubled it's production budget now, but I don't really know the answer to that. The studio may also factor in other budget stuff. The production budget (sets, lighting, crew, location filming, etc.) was 25 but it costs more for the entire thing (i.e. Rings' stateside marketing and print delivery alone cost 25-35 million, and then also not included in that 25 above is the money that goes to the director, editors, actors, the composer, the visual effects house, and the screenwriters). Paramount will have people do research to calculate if it's a good financial decision to make a sequel.

The general rule of thumb is that if a movie makes double its production budget globally then it has sequel potential. This means that Rings has sequel potential, and now the research will probably begin to see if they should make another one. The problem is that Rings was such a critical failure which they do take into account sometimes. It's basically that saying "Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me.". If the majority of people didn't like the movie, they might not watch another one which means the studio may not want to make one if there's a chance they'll lose money on it.

reply

I doubt it, now they have earned 21 million in 11 days on. 25 million budget (without marketing costs), probably will not exceed on 25 million domestically and the critics and audiences in general buried the movie, i hope this will be the last one
