Is this movie really that bad?

I agree that the movie wasn't scary at all. I never jumped at jumpscares. The story also made no sense and felt bit rushed.

But some scenes like 'Samara video flashing on window' or 'Samara crawling out from phone' had some beautiful visuals. I don't think this movie deserves 4.5 rating. I think it deserves at least 5 or higher but lower than 6. Blair witch was far worse than this.

Sadly, yes i think its that bad.
I gave it a 2/10 at best.

It was really bad and ive seen some really other bad "suspense movies" in recent years.
This was one of the worst.

although i see what you mean about the visuals of samara, it doesn't take away from all the bad in my opinion.

I agree with you that blair witch was bad too. Equally as bad i'd say.

Not if (a) you understand what you're watching is really a suspense/thriller and not horror, and (b) you're someone who *enjoys* suspense. As I'm someone who enjoys most kinds of thrillers (virtually anything but the mindbogglingly overdone premise of law enforcement and/or family members investigating a murder/series of murders), this film was okay to me. Not amazing or anything, but a decent effort that was competently shot and convincingly acted.

It's worse. It not only lacks the complex characters and stylish direction of Verbinski, but the overall look and movements of Samara looked scarier in the first (and that was what, more than fifteen years ago? Holy cow.) Julia's arc is also a cheap reprise of Naomi Watt's character journey, with the already explored "twist" that Samara is truly evil incarnate and "liberating" her only makes everything worse.

At least this one didn't have rabid deer crashing cars, I'll give it that.
