Looks like his war movies were filmed on the moon, the blue sky is grey, skin is all grey, plants etc.. etc..
I believe the men who fought WWII had blue skies over top of them, and green leaves around, and I'm not only referring to smokey battle scenes.

"Beach Red" was better than this.

It's sepia tones, as a homage to 1940s news reels and old war films. Also to illustrate the bleak hopelessness of having to defend Iwo Jima.
