Where is the DVD?

I've been hooked on Match Game episodes on GSN. Where is this film that lets us understand the genius?

reply

the films not on dvd yet, its currently sailing through film festivals out west and south and it is very damn successful. i was lucky enough to have worked on this film and i spent some time with charles and the last thing he told me was "have a dream!" so corey3rd, HAVE A DREAM!..... and see this movie as soon as it comes out.

reply

on the blog on his myspace page it says that the dvd should be out this fall i believe.

reply

Yes. The film played this past week at the Seattle International Film Festival. The director attended one of the screenings and indicated the DVD should be out this fall.

reply

Hey everybody, this is Barry Poltermann, one of the directors. I meant to indicate that the film would be in theaters this fall. Look for the DVD early in 2008. In the mean time, catch it at your local theater, if it is in your area! Hope you like it.

Hello Barry..... saw it today in Toronto, IT WAS GREAT. First 5 minutes I had a tear rolling down my cheek but still unsure if it was due to laughing or suddenly realizing how much we will miss him, probably both.

Didnt even know it was playing until 3pm when i was checking the paper to see if there was any movies nearby I wanted to see and was thrilled to see it was playing close by at 4:30 with.... a Q&A after... bonus!! Didnt even have any second thoughts...had to see it.

Question.... any chance of a nomination for AA?? It was a wonderful tribute to Charles and can hardly wait to buy the DVD with all the added material. Please.... the Angie Dickinson story.... PLEASE!!!

reply

That's AWESOME! Glad you liked it... and thank for coming to the Q&A! As for the Academy Awards, well... it's kind of complicated. The film is considered a documentary, so that means it has to play for a week in New York or LA in a "for pay" theater prior to the end of August 2007 in order to be eligible for 2008. We didn't play until November. I think, if we want to apply for it, we could try to get a nomination for 2009, but that seems a long way off... Although I can't help but think that CNR deserves a posthumous Oscar to go next to his Emmy's and Tony's! So maybe we will take the long view and try to get a nom in 2009.

As for the Angie Dickinon story... I think I might put that up on Youtube, by popular demand!

Maybe next week when I get back home. Sound good?

Hi Barry, is the film coming to New Zealand? I would love to see it as I think that Reilly was a great actor! Big fan of Jose Chung!

reply

Wow, New Zealand. Hmmm. Didn't think there was a big CNR audience there. I can pretty much assure you that there won't be a theatrical release in New Zealand, HOWEVER, maybe we can work out a DVD distribution deal there. We will keep you updated. Maybe this film will be a big surprise as a pay per view international download!

I can't believe how long we have had to wait for this wonderful film to come out on DVD. What is the deal?
Please hurry.

reply

Its still playing theatrically, and as a matter of fact just opened to rave critical reviews in Montreal on march 28th.

reply

Is there a date for the DVD release?

reply

When this played at the Toronto Festival in November 2007, I didn't know until I saw the review in the paper. I clipped out that review and put it in my DVD folder to watch for a release. Found it again today - September 2010 - still no DVD. I'm not giving up - back into abeyance, again!

Barry --

A couple of questions, please: Did I miss the DVD release on this? I would love to see it.

What is the Angie Dickinon story? I only know the Shakespeare one and who I THINK was the woman who tried to brush him off when he wanted to say something, and he blasted her with Hamlet.

Also, I had to do some major major updating for CNR on the GAMM page: IMBD only showed him being in NINE episodes of the show at the time of his death. As an original Ghost and Mrs Muir fan, it didn't take me long to see that he was in 44 out of the 50 episodes...

reply

Since I don't get out very much, I never got to see his show on stage and now I'm stuck waiting for the DVD. And waiting... and waiting...

I always knew there was more to CNR than game shows, although Match Game is a personal favorite of mine and it's not worth watching if Charles isn't on the panel.

Charles was such a multi-talented man and the world is truly much more boring without him. He deserves an Academy Award, even posthumously. Does he even have a star on the Hollywood walk of fame?

reply

CNR definitely deserves the academy award, but he is (unfortunately) not elligible as the film is considered a documentary and therefore his performance in this performance film is, well... not considered a performance. It's kind of bizarre, but there you go. However, I really like the star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame idea. I wonder... hmmmm.

Hi Barry, thanks for your reply. I will most probably buy the DVD from Amazon, as soon as its available. I'm really looking forward to seeing it...

reply

Here it is almost 2009, and no sign of a DVD release.

What the blank is holding this up?

reply

I'm also shocked that a DVD hasn't been released, especially considering some of the crappy shot-on-video documentaries I've gotten from Netflix. If junk like "Passsion and Power" can find DVD distribution, then why not "Life of Reilly," which received excellent reviews???

reply

You got me, scribe1964. I am with you. We are going to do a download deal soon and then self release on DVD through the website. I'll post updates as we have them. We were about to release with New Yorker Films and they just went bankrupt, so we are starting over. We want to get the film out there, however we can do it, so look for postings soon with more info.

Heres hoping that everyone saw my post about the DVD being given away on the CharlesNelsonReilly.com website for free with a t-shirt purchase. It's the same version as the theatrical release. No extras, but what do you want for free! : )

I sent for the tee shirt and FREE DVD, the shirt is cool but the DVD is the best thing I have watched in a long time. I laughed and cried, Charles has a wonderful life story to tell and tells it like nobody else could.
Don't even think about this, just order a tee shirt and get the DVD for FREE at http://www.charlesnelsonreilly.com/
