The couple living together...

I have to wonder whether the interactive part of the 'We Live in Public' project (as opposed to 'Quiet') wasn't the cause of the projects eventual break down. It certainly seemed that way from the film at least. I would like to see the same experiment without the immediate feed back/interactive element attached to it to see how it goes. I feel as if we might be able to tolerate being exhibitionists if we didn't have to hear about our various doings immediately after the fact.

Yeah, I agree. The immediate and often brutally critical feedback for every single one of their actions turned out to affect their decisions and reactions.

I recall some earlier internet self-surveillance projects that didn't have the chatting feature seemed to work better; at least, in as much as a person can act "naturally" with a webcam broadcasting their every moment.

They make this point themselves, in the film. You must have gone to the kitchen for a snack during that part.

Yes, I believe it's the outside world that killed both living conditions. In Quiet, the cops shut them down. Had they not done this everything would have continued with no end it sight.

In the case of We Live in Public, it was the need to entertain the online audience that created a war that killed their relationship.

However, had there been no interference in Quiet I think some really really horrible things might have happened. That was a horrible combination of twisted elements that should not have been put together. They are lucky the cops interfered when they did. Emotionally though, people were already scarred. Just imagine the things the kid saw let alone what the people went through in the interrogation rooms!

Of course, We Live in Public would have been a lot better for the couple if people weren't commenting, but then there doesn't really seem to be much of a point to filming themselves does there? Plus people would talk about it on other sites and that chatter would be found eventually.

Now that I think about it the whole not getting instant feedback thing is done by the show Big Brother. Never really watched the show though so not sure how different from this or how scripted it is.
