Picture Quality

I'm just wondering what this film is supposed to look like. Film 4 showed it on UK TV last night and it looked very soft, with the colours very muted, almost like a transfer from a poor quality VHS tape. Checking the IMDB I see the film was shot in Panavision. I had been considering if some digital process had been used. So for anyone who has seen this theatrically, is it supposed to look very soft and fuzzy - was that a stylistic choice - or did Film 4 just show a really strange copy?

I have the DVD and the picture quality is fine.
It's widescreen with English subs.
No complaint about video quality here.
Maybe Film 4 had an inferior print or transfer.

I noticed that too. It looked foggy indoors! Weird.
