Awful - Avoid - Save Your Money - Don't Waste Your Time

just awful.

may be one of the worst movies we have seen this year ( along with The Year of the Dog and Inland Empire ).

I disagree. Not for everybody, but for those who can appreciate it, it's a worthwhile film.

:-), I love this film. I put it on my top 10 list. Any frame is a pleasure. You need to breathe differently sometimes in a movie. And silent, so silent, so oppressivly silent.

I ended up enjoying this movie

I thought it was a very good film. The cinematography was especially breathaking

The cinematography was fantastic...Ceylan does a pretty good job with photographs too; pictures from his location scouting on his website:

Thanks for the link. I had that perception watching the movie, that he worked whith photos. The elegance of each frame, the atention of each detail, the LIGHT! How he worked it so wonderfully through the seasons.

Beautifull movie.

I tell you what, pony boy. Why not just make a list of every movie you hate? It would act as a useful "what to see" guide for people who love good cinema.

(although I can't speak for the dog film)

I used to want to change the world. Now I just want to leave the room with a little dignity.

I agree. This film would have been nice as a photo collection i could browsed for about 5 minutes. Time is important to me. This movie is for people who dont mind wasting 2 hours.

"This movie is for people who dont mind wasting 2 hours."

If you're having a laugh, mattvallo, then ha ha.

If you're serious, then I would not want to share your miserable and limiting view of cinema. If you are serious, then you have just dismissed a very fine work by one of the most important and sublime filmmakers of the present time. That you can so brazenly flaunt such a patent lack of cinematic comprehension is as astounding as it is depressing.

Wait, it took you two hours to watch this?

For almost every film here, there's a thread with some jerk bashing the movie without giving any reason whatever that makes sense. I wonder why......

I think thats because "the jerk" is angry, because he feels like his time is stolen. I, myself, find the impulse irresistible most of the time, but don't do it because i am lazy. The reason is pretty obvious in this case. This film is one of those art films, slow and seems like easily done. I avoided Nuri Bilge Ceylan films up until now, because i thought i wouldn't them, although i am Turkish. But still, i liked the film, in ways i can't easily explain. Maybe i was in the mood. The scenes were great and i liked the little surprises. And I found the the sex scene quite original.

reply

Well, I respect that.
Now, since you're Turkish, what Turkish films do you like or think are good (older as well as new)? Because I'm not Turkish, and although I'm very curious about Turkish cinema*, I just cannot find many Turkish films to buy, not even to download on the net.

(* Turkey once had a very big film industry, therefore I'm sure there's a lot of talent there even today)

Do you really think your bold declaration is helpful to anyone? Maybe try telling why you don't like it or better yet Don't Waste Your Time.

I downloaded it because the Chicago Tribune reviewer Michael Phillips placed it as a top 5 movie of the decade. I also watched the Mexican movie Y tu mamá también which was also top 10 of the decade reviewed by Phillips and it was excellent and I agree with Phillip's assessment.

I watched this movie intently for about 45 minutes and I couldn't take it any more and then fast forwarded it to the dialogue scenes. The story could be about my friend who is also in the same dilemma but throw in a couple more women. I find my friend's life boring so this movie is even more boring and very slow. The cinematography was nice but if cinematography is what you want, I'd rather watch a travel documentary in 1080p. Horrible assessment by Phillips and I would rank it near the bottom of any top 10 of the decade list.
