Is it related at all to Teshigahara's 'Face of Another'?

Is this even vaguely inspired Teshgahara's 1966 "Face of Another" (Tanin no kao), or perhaps more directly by Kobo Abe's novel? One clue would a completely independent subplot about a character with a facial scar. Another (the film not the novel) would be a bizarrely creepy-soothing nurse.

I'm surprised no one responded to this post. I also felt there must have been a connection, with the all knowing doctor, the shot of the large crowd of faces, the use of hotels.

Apart from the theme the last shot of the movie very much reminded me about the Face of Another, both films are about identity and both are masterpieces imho
