What happened to the art gallery girl? (perhaps SPOILER)

There are bits in the movie I don't understand, not the mention the different interpretations of the ending.

The guy was desperate and met the art gallery girl who seemed glad to sleep with him. They decided to do it, the girl went to the toilet, she saw something in the mirror, then decided to refuse.

What was this scene about? What has she seen in the mirror? This must be important to understand the movie. Any ideas?

hey
i think she saw seh-hee in the bathroom. like she was interfering with his dates. it was odd they didn't show enough. she just got spooked and then came out with a different attitude.

That, to me, was a rather weak part of the story. One, the girl happened to be everywhere, and two, in short encounters she managed to scare supposedly strong girls into running away from the guy that they liked a lot. Hard to believe.

Hey, thanks for the response, but I don't understand.

She saw Seh-hee? How could she saw her? You mean she saw _herself_ as See-hee? Why? It doesn't make sense to me... yet.

I saw the theme of the movie as being that no-one really knows who anyone else is, including the audience. There were numerous scenes of things happening where the person behind them was never divulged, such as the rock being thrown through the window, the person who scared off the art gallery woman, etc. There were a couple far off shots that implied that someone was watching the characters, and we as the audience were left to make our assumptions about who was the watcher. In the end, no-one knows who any of those people were, we can only guess, and I think that was the director's message with the woman in the washroom. Maybe she did see Seh-hee, or maybe she just looked at herself and realized that she couldn't do it. Or, maybe she saw someone completely different (perhaps a woman whose husband had cheated on her?) and had an epiphany, we will never know.

BRASILIA!

Judging by the "stalker" camera angle by with the bathroom scene was filmed with, I was led to believe that it was Seh-hee that confrunted her to back off. I think she told her who she was, rather than making her think she's a crazy stalker.

Later when the two of them are in the car and she spurns his advances. He lets her out and just before leaving she says to him 'You should realise just how happy you are.' I took that to mean that Seh-hee had told the girl that they were still in love, and that he was lying to her. The girl believed he was cheating on his love and was thus offended by his betrayal.

Thats what I thought happened anyway.

I was unsure of what happened there too. I thought maybe it would be revealed later on in the movie, but it wasn't. I think it was pretty obvious that See Heen was watching him though, and effectively sabotaging his attempts to date other women. Think about it, she wouldn't be so stupid as to disappear out of his life for 6 months and expect him not to find someone else during that time. Of course she would want to make sure he was still single when she was ready to return to him with her new face.
There's the art gallery girl, who I personally believe saw something in the bathroom, not See Heen herself (remember she was still healing from the surgery) but perhaps a message that had been written on the mirror or wall, aimed at her, probably warning her that Ji-woo is lying to her or something else that would drastically make her decide not to sleep with him.

Then there was the girl who he was getting ready to sleep with in the motel when someone suddenly threw a rock into the window.
And the girl who got Ji-woo's phone number from his friend, but never called, probably because See Heen stopped her somehow.

If you think about it you will realize that the ONLY relationship that wasn't immediately and strangely sabotaged was when he met the new See Heen. With her everything seemed to go smoothly, that is until she began testing him to see if he still loved the old See Heen.

Which bothers me because of how cryptic the art gallery girl was. If some girl came up to me in the bathroom and said that she was still in love with the guy I was about to have sex with I would go out there and confront the dude. This is how things can go wrong. Leaving him in the dark about what's going on is going to confuse the situation even more.
