LINDA ROGO- Stella Steven's catty ex-prostitute turned cop's-wife character in the Poseidon Adventure

reply

Jenny Agutter's name in Logan's Run wasn't Jessica Logan, it was Jessica 6, Logan was the main male character, Logan 5 (Michael York)... although the name on the list could still be a nod to the movie.

reply

Hi tindog-
Yes, you're right, definitely a nod to Logan's Run....Seems like what Waters is doing is sometimes using "real" character names in full, but then sometimes merging names. Example in previous post: CONCHITA BUNUEL.
In Obscure Object Of Desire, he merged the name of the character named Conchita and the director, Bunuel.

reply

Jessica does take Logan as her husband in LOGAN'S RUN, though... so why couldn't that be her full married name?

The war is not meant to be won... it is meant to be continuous.

reply

Plus, Lenina Huxley (from D. MAN) is in itself a merging of names, a nod to Aldous Huxley's BRAVE NEW WORLD, in which one character is named Lenina.

But you probably knew that already... :)

Actually, Thereal McCoy was the name Alex Portnoy gives to his idealized WASP fantasy girl in the novel Portnoy's Complaint.

Surprised no one's caught the main name, Gillian de Raisx. Obviously inspired by real life madman Gilles de Rais, who is sometimes credited as an inspiration for the Bluebeard story.

If you stretch the Bluebeard analogy a bit, Gillian's virtual "killing" of her suitors fits with Bluebeard's actual killing of his various wives.
