This ain't no Ong Bak

I just finished watching Ring Girls, and it stunk. The acting was so bad I kept expecting to see Ron Jeremy walk in with his pants around his ankles. The fights were real, but it was just sad to watch. All the opponents were the most talentless tomato-cans I've ever seen, and most of them were much smaller than the movie's "heroes".
I recently saw a similar movie called A Year in the Ring which is a documentary about some fat bloke who goes to Thailand for a year to train in Muay Thai. At the end of the movie we see his Big Pro Fight, where he fights what has to be the most obese kid in all of Southeast Asia. The fat Thai kid seems to be a bit mentally retarded, but he manages to go the whole five rounds. The "fights" (and I use that term loosely) in Ring Girls were even more one-sided. Calling them fights isn't really fair, a more descriptive word is beatings. I don't think any of the girls they fight in Thailand or in Las Vegas ever gets in a single solid hit. Mostly they just cower in the ring, eating punches and looking like they're about to cry.
I've also seen a clip of Ozzy Osbourne's son Jack doing the same thing, beating up some hopeless shmuck in a boxing ring in Thailand. I guess no matter how inept your boxing skills are, for the right price Thai boxing promoters can always find you a suitable punching bag. It makes me wonder if the Thais are promoting a new kind of tourism. Maybe they should offer package deals, they could call it the Muay Thai Beating Vacation. You would pay a flat fee for your hotel, training time in an authentic Muay Thai gym, and a useless opponent for you to punch around would be included at no extra cost.
I guess it's not as bad as child prostitution, which is also popular in Thailand, but it's a similar kind of exploitation.

I thought the OP was a jackass when I first read what he wrote, but then I saw the movie, and I agree with him, except for his comment about none of the opponents landing a solid hit. Some of the women in Vegas hit solidly, albeit inconsistently. I felt bad for the Thai opponents. They CAN’T be the best that Siam has to offer. They lacked size, training and confidence. I wanted to see Ring Girls because I’ve only recently discovered Gina Carano and I like her and think she is serious, and I love Muay Thai. I found Ring Girls on tubi, and only had to sit through 4 minutes of commercials.
