why did they keep appearing and disappearing? my sister and i are not very retarted and that is the only thing we could not figure out. i was suprised by how much i enjoyed the movie. thank you so much for any help.

i thought that was interesting. the man with the tattoos at the beginning is the one who young ariyoshi had to get his manhood from. i think the tattoos showed up when kazuki was acting most like this vision of manliness that ariyoshi is so into. hope this helps!
shareI figured it represented his "mentor" or the aspects of his mentor he saw in in Kazuki. The neccessity for him to project a master role on to someone. Even, like he said, his own insanity coming to the surface. Misinterpretting someone he doesn't even know or have a relationship with to mean so many things to him.
